Leidos Dig Mod Health IT division is seeking a Senior Network Engineer specializing in network operations for a large network services opportunity supporting a Health Agency in Montgomery County, MD. The Senior Network Engineer is a member of an operations team that maintains and supports a multi-faceted large-scale enterprise network that is primarily based on Cisco technology. The network operations team ensures secure, highly available network backbone, wireless, and data center services in accordance with existing customer service level agreements (SLAs). The candidate for this position will provide technical leadership and mentoring of junior staff, deliver Tier 3 support for incident response, perform problem management and incident prevention activities, and coordinate with vendors and service providers. While the network is primarily Cisco, candidates with equivalent expertise and certifications from Juniper and other networking vendors will also be considered.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide on-site support to the health agency in MD.
Responsible for the delivery of stable enterprise network operations to include but not limited to virtual local area networks (VLANs), wide area networks (WANs), datacenter networks, wireless networks, industrial control communications systems, Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) networks, facilities and change management services.
Configure and optimize network monitoring tools including ScienceLogic SL1 to provide high fidelity alerts and visualizations to the network monitoring team.
Measure, monitor and plan network performance, usage, availability, capacity, and risks for network change requests.
Provide analysis and support for Network Services enhancements, innovation opportunities, automation efforts and projects.
Provide Tier 3 technical support, development of standard operation procedures
Ensure 24x7x365 support to restore service within established incident response SLAs for service interruptions or other critical problems
Support efforts of customer visibility into network operations through dashboards and reporting
Collaborate with architecture and security teams to support network initiatives and identify operational requirements
Manage and set priorities for the monitoring and maintenance of network systems, including LANs, WANs, Internet, intranet, wireless.
Ensure maximum utility and identify consolidation and optimization opportunities of monitoring tools
Provide Cisco switching and routing expertise in support of configuration of over 1000 network devices
Ensure baseline configuration of all network assets is documented and configured according to DoD engineering standards.
Support the creation and delivery of contract deliverable documentation, reports, plans and analysis
Research, evaluate, and stay current on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies including cloud services.
Basic Qualifications
BS degree and 8-12 years of relevant experience or Masters 6-10 years relevant experience
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust
EITHER an active Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Routing and Switching or an equivalent expert-level certification such as Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE) in Routing and Switching, plus five (5) years of data center operational experience
OR an active Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) (Data Center, Enterprise, or Service Provider) or an equivalent professional-level certification such as Juniper Networks Certified Professional (JNCIP) (Enterprise Routing & Switching, Data Center, or Service Provider) and ten (10) years of data center operational experience
Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 frameworks and protocols
Knowledge of supporting formal change management processes using an ITSM platform such as ServiceNow
Experience supporting complex enterprise VLAN architectures and applying Zero Trust principles
Knowledge of IT service management best practices for supporting network operations for large volumes (45,000) of end users
Experience designing and implementing data center networks using Cisco Nexus switches, F5 appliances, and Palo Alto devices
Candidates with experience in Juniper QFX series switches, Mist AI, or other major network vendors will also be considered
Experience with scripting languages and automation using infrastructure as code
Demonstrated ability for oral and written communication with the highest levels of management and delivery of required reports in accordance with formal contractual agreements
Experience providing operations support for large enterprise network backbones
Experience supporting large wireless networks and industrial control system networks that include environmental monitoring and management of uninterruptible power supplies
Demonstrated leadership experience, including task and change delegation within a network operations environment
Experience acting as a deputy to an IT departmental manager, assisting with technical strategy, operational execution, and personnel development
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with implementing data center colocation services
Experience with Federal Government TIC operations
Experience with Cisco DNA Center (preferred) and/or Juniper Mist AI
Hybrid cloud networking experience
Experience with Gigamon network packet capture and analysis technology
Experience with SD-WAN modernization initiatives
CompTIA Security+
CISSP security certification
ITIL 4 Foundation certification
Strong leadership skills in delivering technical presentations and reports for leadership and customer communication
Experience handling on-call escalation and communication for executive leadership and critical incident management

Pay Range:
Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
