Job Description:

The Network Vulnerability Engineer is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating network vulnerabilities based on scan results to identify trends and additional potential security risks. In this role, the engineer will collaborate closely with IT and security teams to ensure the timely resolution of identified vulnerabilities within the network infrastructure. This individual will help make our company’s information technology (IT) environment more secure by promptly remediating identified vulnerabilities using a risk-based prioritization strategy, and keeping network devices hardened against exploits.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): 

  • Analyze identified vulnerabilities to determine their severity and potential impact on the organization's network.

  • Prioritize vulnerabilities based on risk assessment and business impact.

  • Develop detailed remediation plans to address identified vulnerabilities on network devices. This includes recommending specific actions, patches, or configuration changes to mitigate risks.

  • Work closely with IT and security teams to implement remediation plans. Ensure that all recommended actions are executed effectively and within established timelines.

  • Continuously monitor the status of remediation efforts. Provide regular reports to management and stakeholders on the progress of vulnerability remediation, including any challenges or delays.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and application developers, to ensure a coordinated approach to vulnerability management.

  • Maintain detailed records of vulnerability assessments, remediation activities, and security incidents. Ensure that all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

  • Stay informed about the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure that all practices align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of network connectivity issues related to scanning and vulnerability remediation efforts.

Job Specifications:

  • Knowledge of Cisco and Palo Alto network equipment patching and configuration management.

  • Knowledge of Tenable scanning and vulnerability reports

  • Knowledge of routing and switching capabilities.

  • Strong logical ability, natural curiosity, problem solving ability, good oral and written communication skills, thorough, takes initiative, professional appearance/demeanor, dependable, flexible with schedule, loyal, organized, and courteous. 

  • Troubleshooting skills with networking and computer systems, can multitask, work in a fast- paced environment while providing excellent user experience. 

  • Ability to work independently with general supervision; applies practical knowledge to problems.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Intermediate level professional with working knowledge and experience in network security.

  • Minimum 2-year degree in an Information Technology field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Four (4) to five (5) years of hands-on experience working with IP networks, firewalls switch | route environment

  • Four (4) years of experience patching networking devices and remediating vulnerabilities using CVE.

Supervisory / Responsibility:

This is a non-supervisory position.

Work Environment:

This is an office position.

Position Type:

This is a regular, full-time position with the understanding that a regular workweek will require extended days and hours as needed to meet business needs.

Travel:

Occasional domestic and/or global travel may be required for this position.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of the those performed in the job duties.  The employee sits at a desk and uses a computer for prolonged periods of time.  Performing the role frequently uses close vision, speech, hearing, and dexterity to operate office equipment.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
