POSITION SUMMARY

Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking a summer intern to support its Global Security Incident Response (GSIRT) cyber defense team. The intern will contribute to a variety of tasks related to protecting information systems and data. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn and contribute to real-world security operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Proofpoint Ticket Support: Gather and analyze information requested by Proofpoint email protection support for ongoing investigations.

• Rule Optimization: Analyze Splunk data to identify obsolete security rules and recommend improvements to existing rules.

• False Positive Analysis: Investigate security alert systems and logs to identify and mitigate potential false positives.

• Support the team with various cybersecurity tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

Your qualifications and experience should include:

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, preferably pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and draw conclusions.

• Experience with data analysis tools: Proficiency in tools like Splunk or similar data analysis platforms is highly desirable.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively communicate findings and recommendations both verbally and in writing.

• Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts: Familiarity with common security threats, network protocols, and security best practices is a plus.

• Strong work ethic and attention to detail: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on accuracy and quality.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Strong skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are essential.

• Enthusiasm for learning and a strong interest in cybersecurity.

The target hourly rate for this internship is $21.00 per hour. The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime.
