We are seeking an Engineering Director to lead our Security Products teams, someone who will collaborate closely with product and business partners to prioritize and advance our security strategic goals.
You will play a key role in both engineering and design processes, while also providing guidance and mentorship to a group of engineers. You should have a strong understanding of what it takes to lead efficient engineering teams and set a vision with a strong focus on customers. You will simplify security technologies in a way that allows DigitalOcean customers to adopt them natively into their infrastructure and applications.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Growing and leading a highly-collaborative engineering team to build security products and features for DigitalOcean customers. Mentor your team in growing their skillsets and careers.
- Own the engineering lifecycle for security products, anti-abuse and other security ecosystem engineered services.
- Inform and execute on security product roadmaps in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, balancing both business and technical requirements.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and project plans, working closely with various cross-functional teams including developers, engineers, and UX/UI designers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, identify and engage potential partners, and deliver solutions that meet customer needs.
- Drive engineering excellence by establishing meaningful success metrics, managing technical debt proactively, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through feedback loops, innovation, automation, and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure the products comply with the highest level of security standards and privacy regulations.
- Coordinate with support and training teams to develop user manuals, FAQ’s, and other customer-facing materials.
What We’ll Expect from You:
- Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring engineering managers & software engineers
- Experience in a fast-paced, high growth tech environment building and scaling internal platforms.
- Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while balancing short term and long term needs
- Regularly give feedback to team members on wins, and areas to improve.
- Lead a team where individuals enjoy coming to work, know what needs to be done, and have the resources to get their job done.
- Experience managing and delivering projects throughout the entire SDLC
- Experience developing cross-disciplinary collaboration between engineering, operations, support, and product groups
- Experience with end-to-end quality best practices and their implementation
- Experience with staffing, interviewing, building, and retaining teams
- Experience conveying complex ideas in written, verbal and presentational formats
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 12+ years experience in product, engineering, or other technical roles.
- Proven experience in product management, including product lifecycle management and roadmap planning.
- Deep understanding of cloud-based systems and cybersecurity principles.
- Prior experience working with Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with cloud hosting and virtualization technologies.
- Past success in shaping highly scalable software products with an eye on ease-of-use.

- We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $190,000 - $288,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
