The Cyber Prevention Section informs measures to defeat adversaries upstream of an incident, improves system security confidence, and assure the cyber security operations centre (CSOC).
The all-source CTI team delivers timely, relevant and accurate intelligence products, tailored to the intended audience, analysing the intent, capability and opportunity of cyber adversaries. Intelligence acts as a service to approved clients by reporting on agreed Intelligence Requirements (IRs). This supports decision making at Strategic, Operational, and Tactical levels.

Our ideal candidate
The Senior Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst supervises a small team and is responsible for the development, delivery and quality assurance of timely, accurate strategic and/or technical cyber intelligence products which report on agreed information requirements to inform decision making and situational awareness. These products support strategic awareness, threat hunting, penetration testing, operational response actions including proactive mitigation measures, vulnerability management and incident response.
The position is based in Canberra, ACT.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop monthly Executive Threat Landscape Reports
- Develop other strategic and technical analysis products aligned with approved intelligence requirements
- Develop tearline reporting or lower classification products to share intelligence with approved government agencies
- Supervise, mentor and develop intelligence analysts to support development of internal capability
- Utilise Structured Analytic Techniques to assist in the development of sound assessment judgements across all relevant intelligence products.

Role Requirements/Qualifications:
Mandatory
- 2+ years experience in cyber security/ICT/intelligence related fields
- Demonstrated experience in a Cyber Security or ICT environment
- Knowledge of ICT security tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Information Security Manual (ISM) and cyber security concepts
- The ability to work with limited supervision and demonstrate drive towards team goals
- The ability to quickly gain knowledge in a range of technologies
- Strong written communication and briefing skills
- Ability to mentor and lead junior staff to build team capability.
Preferred
- Thorough understanding of Cyber Threat Intelligence standards and concepts
- Sound communication and stakeholder relationship skill
- Strong and adaptive critical thinking skills
- Aware of historical cyber related events and threat groups
- Ability to gain and maintain a positive vetting security clearance.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
