Job Description

As a Senior Security Architect, you will assist the Army Network Operation Centre (ANOC) within the cyber security function.

This organization within the Canadian Army is responsible for operating and maintaining the LC4ISR (Land Command, Control, Communication, Computers) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems required for the effective conduct of Army operations.

This Centre is an integral part of the Army’s Command and Control capabilities.

Tasks will include, but not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Canadian Army and assist in the option analysis, planning and execution of the next generations LC4ISR system architect to reflect future Canadian Army operational and allied inoperability requirements while remaining in-line with LCMM (Life Cycle Material Mgt.) constraints.
  • Develop technical architectures, frameworks and strategies to meet LC4ISR system security requirements.
  • Analyze, design and implement LC4ISR system security architectures.
  • Design, develop and assess technical solutions to address complex LC4ISR system security issues.
  • Analyze and evaluate alternative technology solutions to meet LC4ISR system security problems.
  • Ensure the integration of all aspects of LC4ISR system security solutions.
  • Recommend options for resolving LC4ISR system security design issues.
  • Define and document security interfaces within LC4ISR SoS, to external systems and between new and existing systems.
  • Produce and manage security systems architectural designs and guidance, with contributions from across all engineering and support disciplines, to achieve comprehensive LC4ISR system security implementation.
  • Conduct audits on current security architecture and make recommendations on overall architecture, resource allocation and configuration based on current Canadian Army operational requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proof of Professional Engineer License within Canada and current CISSP qualification. (both mandatory)
  • Proof of Engineering Bachelor’ degree in software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field required to support Land C4ISR
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience on Military Command and Control Communication and Information systems or ISTAR systems. (mandatory)
  • Minimum 8+ years” experience within the last 10 years in the preparation of technical concept documents, system specifications, and technical proposals in the field of IT/IM or Engineering. (system, software, computer, communication, security, or simulation) experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate 6+ years’ experience in at least 4 of the following: (1st and 2nd are mandatory)
    • Providing advice, guidance, and recommendations on technical issues to support the decision making of senior management
    • Leading multidisciplinary teams in the development of IT tactical systems, frameworks, and strategies.
    • Communicating information technology frameworks and strategies to management and technical staff.
    • Communicating system engineering direction for projects or systems.
    • Performing strategic operational or tactical planning for projects or systems to meet corporate strategy.
  • Ability to demonstrate 10+ years’ experience in at least 2 of the following:
    • Experience in security architecture and engineering processes using secure design principles and industry best practice.
    • Experience in assessing and mitigating vulnerabilities in system by applying security and risk management principles.
    • Experience in the development of security governance principes, compliance requirements, IT policies, guidance ,and procedures.
    • Experience in the design and protection strategy of an organizations’ communications and network security such as the development of a VPN solution which includes familiarity with encryption algorithms / cryptography and key management plan.

Additional Information

  • Initial contract period: April 2025 – March 2026 (to start, with possibility of extension)
  • Must hold a valid Secret level 2 clearance.
  • Controlled Goods Certificate is a contract requirement.
  • In this role, you will work in the following technical environment(s) as a minimum:
    • LC4ISR suite of applications, network devices, and bearer systems (including Line of Sight and Beyond Line-of-Sight systems).
    • Major commercial or open-source Operating Systems including but not limited to Microsoft, Linux, Android.
    • Commercial Network protocols including but not limited to Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, Generic Routing Encapsulation, etc.
    • Server virtualization technology such as VMWare ESXi.
    • Situational awareness and battle management systems such as Systematic SitaWare HQ or TAK.
    • Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) technologies.
    • Cloud Principles and Fundamentals with cloud providers such as (but not limited to) Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and/or Google; and
    • DevSecOps processes and CI/CD pipelines, including concepts of software containerization and Kubernetes.
