As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you are an expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, applying your extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks to shape the security controls required within solution designs (both people, process and technical) and identify, communicate and help treat corresponding security risks.

Through your strong knowledge of existing and emerging technology, you are able deliver a superior security and network experience for our consumers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of cyber security and engineering knowledge and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in Network and IT specific technology domains.

You play a pivotal role in shaping our technology strategy and protecting Telstra’s assets, acting as a trusted adviser to our people, teams, cyber, engineering and DevOps leaders to build our cyber capability.

Focus of the Role:

We are looking for Security Engineering - Senior Engineer, expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, who will use their extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks and will focus on Software Development within the security domain on automation use cases.

What You’ll Do:

As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you are an expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, applying your extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks to shape the security controls required within solution designs (both people, process and technical) and identify, communicate and help treat corresponding security risks.

You do this by drawing on your deep levels of cyber security and engineering knowledge and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in Network and IT specific technology domains.

Essentials skills required for this role:

  • More than 10+ years of proven experience in Software / IT / Telecom industry
  • 4+ years of experience in Security Engineering
  • Software Development experience within the security domain
  • Proven Experience working on automation use cases in security domain

Responsibilities:

As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you draw on your deep (cyber) security expertise in multiple fields/verticals of engineering, network and technologies utilising agile, lean, waterfall and/or DevOps ways of working to deliver against the following responsibilities:

  • Define and operationalise, in collaboration with key stakeholders, appropriate security controls in network architecture and technologies to protect Telstra and customer information, systems and network assets.
  • Provide input into the security strategy, standards and frameworks to ensure security controls and hygiene are built into network engineering and technology designs and processes.
  • Authentically engage with the business and leverage customer feedback to initiate continuous improvements in security engineering and technology designs that are fit for purpose and meet customer requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, standards and procedures for multiple technologies to build security awareness within the organisation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and coaching by modelling Telstra and best practice security engineering standards and actively develop less experienced engineers through coaching, mentoring and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in promoting security awareness and / or network or technology issues to Leaders / stakeholders.
  • Translate customer needs and requirements, into realisable and commercially viable secure products, services or systems and/or networks infrastructure and platforms.
  • Deliver outcomes to a high standard by actively collaborating in security engineering or network design, change implementation and support of platform, applications, services and product issues. This includes operation and support of a complex integration layer deployment.
  • Significantly contribute to the design, build, installation, integration and maintenance of multiple complex network technologies, platforms, applications, services, products and/or systems.
  • Ensure that network systems and components interact with Telstra processes and systems to deliver market leading customer experiences. You do this by using your expertise and experience in standardised application interfaces to develop reusable and optimised solutions.
  • Assess capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements. You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in making recommendations for vendor solutions.
  • Take an active role in managing vendor performance and technology delivery to ensure that agreed technical functionality, time and cost outcomes are met.
  • Document your work to ensure that business continuity, security and operational activity can seamlessly be supported and maintained by others.
  • Actively engage in enhancing and improving CI/CD capabilities (testing, automation) to reduce cycle time while retaining quality.
  • Ensure solutions are re-usable, scalable, reliable, manageable and operable and align with the Telstra technology strategic directions and meet any specific OKR’s.
