Position Summary
The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Detroit Mercy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice, with a specialization in Cybercrime to begin in August 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Disciplinary specialization is open. Applicants focusing on cybercrime investigation; digital forensics, cyber risk management; cyber criminology; substance abuse and crime; correctional science; protective security theories of criminal justice; research methodology; law and the courts; social justice; or homeland security and terrorism are encouraged to apply. The department seeks candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in a multidisciplinary setting. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to our undergraduate and graduate curricula and be expected to teach general introductory criminal justice courses in addition to topics in their area of specialization.
The teaching load is 18 credit hours (6 courses) per academic year for faculty with an active research agenda. In addition, the candidate will be expected to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and student advising. The candidate will be expected to engage in research and scholarship and to provide service to the department, College, and University.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, cybersecurity, criminology, or a related field is required. · Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and/or demonstrated commitment to professional training, education, and development with a commitment to experiential learning.
- Evidence of active engagement with research and scholarship demonstrated by peer reviewed publications, presentations and proceedings at conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of a documented history in or understanding of criminal justice and cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated ability to work across different disciplines.
- Evidence of capacity to engage with a diverse student body.
- Demonstrated leadership capacity in a program director role or other similar function.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office setting.
