Junior Kubernetes Engineer (DevSecOps)

Responsibilities

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Junior Kubernetes Engineer (DevSecOps) to support our Huntsville, AL location (remote opportunities available, but must be in commuting distance to PeopleTec Corporate).

We are currently seeking a Junior Kubernetes Engineer (DevSecOps) to support our Huntsville, AL location.

The Junior Kubernetes Engineer (DevSecOps) will assist in Kubernetes application deployment, administration, and lifecycle management. This role will work with Helm, Kustomize, and other Kubernetes tooling to help deploy applications efficiently and securely. The engineer will support maintaining and securing Kubernetes clusters in multi-cloud environments (Azure and AWS) and contribute to implementing DevSecOps best practices across the software development lifecycle.

Duties:

• Assist in designing and implementing cloud-native solutions across Azure and AWS.
• Support the deployment and maintenance of Kubernetes applications using Helm, Kustomize, and GitOps methodologies.
• Assist in developing network security configurations within cloud environments.
• Support the implementation of DoD-approved enterprise authentication in Azure, leveraging advanced security protocols and practices.
• Help implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for multi-platform products in Azure and AWS, ensuring security and compliance.
• Provide support for Kubernetes cluster operations, including monitoring, scaling, and security hardening.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, ensuring adherence to NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-171 standards.
• Assist in improving CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines for cloud-native applications.
• Work with open-source software to support a cloud-agnostic deployment approach.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

• IAT II certification.
• 2 years of experience in infrastructure/network engineering-related work, with at least 1 year working in Azure or AWS cloud environments.  This requirement can be substituted by subject matter college education or certifications.
• Basic experience with Kubernetes administration, Helm, and Kustomize.
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Exposure to enterprise authentication and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying cloud-native applications.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services.
• Foundational knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Experience or coursework in CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Ansible, Azure DevOps).
• Basic networking knowledge including IP subnetting, network security groups, routing, load balancing, and DNS.
• Exposure to open-source tools to support a cloud-agnostic deployment approach.
• Travel: Less than 10%.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• An active DoD Secret clearance is preferred or the ability to obtain one.

Education Requirements:

• Preferred Bachelor's degree in network engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Desired Skills:

• Interest in working with DoD cloud environments, including compliance and security requirements.
• Exposure to AWS & Azure, including cross-cloud integrations and hybrid cloud architectures.
• Experience with basic IT automation tools like Ansible.
• Ability to learn and work with clients to translate project requirements into technical solutions.
• Any certfications related to Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, or Cybersecurity.
