Cyber Security Apprentice

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a confident individual with a positive outlook and a can do attitude who are aspiring to build their experience and progress at M&G.

A successful candidate is someone who is self motivated, capable of building and maintaining relationships, naturally curious and work effectively as part of a team. A powerful desire to learn and a genuine interest in Security Operations.  

The applicant would ideally have an inquisitive nature and be curious. The successful applicant should feel confident to use their own initiative and work alone where required with an aspiration to want to learn and progress.

The Role

The Security Operations team is responsible for the monitoring, protecting, enhancing and responding to risks and threats that threaten M&Gs networks. Each individual team works hard to ensure M&Gs environment is secure by working with Third Parties, conducting training and exercising to ensure stakeholders understand Security risks and subsequently know how to adequately respond and continuous processing to enable the identification and response to potential security incidents, attacks, intrusions, data breaches and policy violations within M&G and its associated businesses. The successful applicant should have strong desire to learn and a genuine interest in financial services industry.

Candidates must be able to formulate their own opinions by thinking analytically about problems.

This placement requires a high level of commitment and self-discipline.

What will you be doing?

As a Technology Cyber Security  Apprentice your daily duties will include:  

• Supporting the Team in delivery of an excellent security service to internal customers and third party suppliers, driving efficiencies and improvements for the business  
• Supporting delivery of business and security strategy 
• Managing internal customers queries 
• Educating colleagues on the importance of security behaviours
• Attending meetings and supporting implementation of projects  
• Developing knowledge of the cyber security landscape
• Supporting Incidents and Post Incident Reviews

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders with ease  
• Ability to manage processes and coordinating with different people 
• Strong customer service awareness  
• Empathy and good listening skills 
• Efficient, proactive, structured approach to work and very well organised
• High level of accuracy and good attention to detail 
• Can effectively manage day to day work, alongside apprenticeship qualification 
• Moderate understanding of the MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
• A proactive team player who is confident about working with others but also independently and can promptly escalate any issue and work remotely where required 
• Logical and analytical approach coupled with intelligence, passion and a drive to learn

Minimum Requirements

• Available to start the apprenticeship programme in September 2025
• You must not be enrolled into another further education programme at the beginning of the programme
• Be a UK citizen or have proof of your right to work in the UK
• Living in Scotland
• Pass in Five National 5s including English and Maths
• Minimum of Grade C in Two Highers or equivalent

Training Provided

As a Cyber Security Apprentice with M&G, you will undertake the SCQF Level 8 Cyber Security Technical Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blend of live online learning, pre-recorded lectures, and face to face inductions and masterclasses

Future Prospects

This is a fixed term contract for 18 - 23 months upon which the business may decide to retain, subject to the Apprentice performance, headcount, and available funding. If recruited into a permanent role, the individual will follow the career progression applicable to the specific role/department.

Salary

£22,900  per annum plus benefits
