As a Data Policy Writer in the banking industry, you will be responsible for developing, drafting, and maintaining comprehensive data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the bank's data management practices comply with industry regulations, internal requirements, and best practices. This role is pivotal in supporting data security, privacy, compliance, and operational efficiency while minimizing risks associated with data handling, storage, and access.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Policy Development:
Write, update, and maintain data policies, guidelines, and procedures tailored to meet both regulatory and organizational requirements in the banking sector (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, BCBS 239, etc.). Ensure policies are aligned with data protection, privacy, security, and compliance standards specific to the banking environment. - Regulatory Compliance:
Research and stay up to date with relevant financial regulations and data privacy laws affecting the banking industry. Ensure policies reflect any changes to these regulations and best practices in data governance. - Collaboration & Consultation:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, legal, risk management, business units) to understand the bank’s data usage, challenges, and risk areas. Provide expertise in data governance matters to ensure alignment of policies with business objectives and regulatory compliance. - Documentation & Training:
Create clear and accessible documentation, including procedures and user manuals, to educate employees about data policies and governance. Conduct training sessions to ensure adherence to data policies across the bank. - Continuous Improvement:
Participate in the ongoing review and refinement of the bank’s data governance framework. Suggest updates or improvements based on evolving industry standards, regulatory changes, and internal feedback.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or certifications (e.g., CIPP, CISM, CISA) in data privacy, information governance, or regulatory compliance is a plus. - Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in writing policies, procedures, or guidelines related to data governance or data protection in the financial or banking industry.
- Familiarity with financial regulations (e.g., Basel III, Dodd-Frank, GDPR, CCPA) and data privacy laws.
- Strong understanding of data management, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance standards relevant to banking and financial institutions.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with data management systems, data privacy tools, and governance frameworks is an advantage.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across various teams and departments.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with risk management practices within financial institutions.
- Knowledge of industry-specific data protection tools and technologies.
- Understanding of data lifecycle management and classification in the banking sector.
