Pay Range
$140,700 - $178,392 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Job Description
We have an opening for a National Security Analyst with a background in social science, political science, policy analysis, or cyber security to provide qualitative and quantitative analysis. You will work with a diverse group of analysts, scientists and engineers supporting LLNL’s Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience (CIR) Program within the Global Security (GS) Directorate and join us to solve critical national security problems. You will analyze and assess the impact of emerging and complex threats to national security infrastructure. This position is within the CIR Program within Global Security’s Energy and Homeland Security (E) Program.
- Contribute to research and analysis on critical infrastructure resilience and security, focusing on emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
- Provide solutions and apply advanced analytical models to assess the impact of potential disruptions on national security.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement strategies for enhancing infrastructure resilience.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners, to inform policy and decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of frameworks and tools for risk assessment and mitigation in critical infrastructure systems.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at conferences, seminars, and meetings.
- Travel as needed to coordinate with research collaborators and visit field sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Political Science, Public Policy or other technical area or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge in critical infrastructure resilience, national security, or related areas.
- Broad analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in developing and applying complex models.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and engage with external stakeholders.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively present and explain technical information.
- Ability to travel.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with policy analysis and development related to national security and critical infrastructure.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and their implications for infrastructure resilience.
- Experience in qualitative methodologies and mixed methodologies.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession. This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.
If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
