About the role


Forterra is currently seeking high-energy, low-ego interns to join our Summer 2025 internship cohort. Joining Forterra as an intern is an excellent way to get hands-on experience working in a high-technology, start-up environment where you'll gain experience working with employees at all levels, from your peers to our Executive team. The Finance and Accounting, Sales, Marketing, and Program/Project Management teams are all adding to their teams this summer!



About the role


Forterra is looking to bring on high-energy, inquisitive interns to join our Engineering team. This role will give interns an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the ground-based autonomous vehicle space, contributing to real-world projects and solving complex problems.


Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to translate abstract concepts into technical solutions - software or hardware.
  • Experience or significant interest in autonomous mobility and robotic locomotion
  • Creative and imaginative in application of technical concepts
  • Strong ability to problem-solve, acts as a self-starter, doesn’t shy away from technical challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to plan architecture to anticipate future technical expansion.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Relentless in your pursuit of solving the problem or challenge
  • Familiarity with circuit design, embedded systems, and control systems.

Role-Specific Qualifications

  • What you'll be working on
  • Assist with Vulnerability Management, including scanning, triage, and tracking security findings across systems and products.
  • Support Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) processes, including security requirements gathering and implementation tracking.
  • Gain exposure to U.S. Department of Defense Cybersecurity Standards, such as:
    • NIST 800 Series compliance and security controls.
    • Risk Management Framework (RMF) for defense systems.
    • DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) application and enforcement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience with scripting languages, such as Python, for automation and tool integration.
  • Familiarity with Linux and BASH
  • Familiarity with security tools such as vulnerability scanners, static code analysis, or compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with virtual machines and common remote access protocols such as SSH and SCP
  • Interest in product security, or secure development practices.

Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program in a technical or security-focused field (e.g., Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering).


US Hourly Compensation Range
 $30-$40/hour


On-Site in Clarksburg, MD
 

The hourly range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The compensation offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Forterra offers competitive benefits for interns including:
