Team Overview The Microsoft CISO Organization is looking for a Principal Security PM Architect with strong security engineering and product management expertise to develop the next generation of Identity and Access Management (IAM) capabilities to protect all of Microsoft. Our mission is to proactively identify and mitigate security risks by leveraging advanced security signals and risk assessments to drive meaningful architectural improvements.

 

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Security PM Architect with deep expertise in security engineering, risk assessment, and architectural design to strengthen Microsoft’s security posture. In this role, you will collaborate with security assessment teams, security engineers, and service architects to validate service architecture, propose mitigations, and track progress. You will design and implement a scalable pre-mortem framework leveraging security-by-design principles and security graph insights. You will use the framework to analyze assessments and system design to surface vulnerabilities and drive security investments. You will partner with penetration testing teams to translate findings into actionable security improvements, influence cross-company security reviews, and ensure a coordinated approach to risk mitigation at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions to assess security risks and drive architectural improvements.
  • Leverage Security Graph insights to analyze relationships between services, identify vulnerabilities, and prioritize security investments.
  • Define and implement a repeatable pre-mortem framework, creating a scalable playbook for proactive security risk assessments.
  • Lead security threat modeling and risk analysis efforts, mapping risks to security controls and architectural improvements.
  • Collaborate with penetration testing teams, senior service architects, and security engineers to translate security findings into actionable engineering improvements with the right level of automation and enforcement.
  • Influence cross-functional teams and drive risk mitigation efforts, ensuring security priorities align with engineering and product roadmaps.
  • Report on security risks, pre-mortem analysis outcomes, and project status in leadership reviews, stakeholder briefings, and security conferences internally.
  • Continuously improve security assessment methodologies, integrating evolving threat intelligence, security signals, and best practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • Or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in security architecture, security engineering, technical product management, and/or risk assessment, with a strong background in designing and securing large-scale systems.

 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Strong understanding of identity, access management, and security architectures, including authentication mechanisms, secrets management, and privileged access controls.
  • Experience analyzing security signals and threat models to identify vulnerabilities and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams, aligning product and engineering roadmaps to drive security improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical risks into actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Ability to develop scalable frameworks for assessing and mitigating security risks across large enterprise environments.
  • Experience working with security telemetry, security graphs, and advanced risk analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud security principles and large-scale service protection strategies.

 

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
