Specialist Software Engineer

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will develop, and maintains software applications that meet business needs, ensuring critical systems' availability and performance. This role involves front-end and back-end development, focusing on solutions in the clinical trial data management in the biotech industry. It requires knowledge of clinical data standards, regulations, and database design to create secure, compliant systems. The engineer works with product managers, designers, and other engineers to develop high-quality, scalable solutions, automates operations, monitors system health, and responds to incidents to minimize downtime.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Drive technical discussion related to the Clinical Data Management technologies related to clinical Research & Development (R&D) applications.

• Build technical solutions per implementation project plan by working with various members of the product team and business partners.

• Implementing intuitive data visualization tools to present complex clinical data effectively.

• Designing user interfaces for data entry, review, and analysis using frameworks like React, Angular, and JavaScript

• Building secure APIs to handle data exchange between the front-end and database.

• Developing data validation and quality checks to maintain data integrity.

• Implementing robust data storage mechanisms using databases.

• Communicate potential risks and contingency plans with project management to ensure process compliance with all regulatory and Amgen procedural requirements

• Participate and contribute to process product or best practices initiatives and support developers and testers during the project lifecycle

• Define, author, and present various architecture footprints i.e. Business, Logical, Integration, Security, Infrastructure, etc.

• Create and maintain documentation on software architecture, design, deployment, disaster recovery, and operations

• Identify and resolve technical challenges effectively

• Identify and resolve software bugs and performance issues

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and QA, to deliver high-quality software on time.

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate Degree OR

• Master’s degree with 4 - 6 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR

• Bachelor’s degree with 6 - 8 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR

• Diploma with 10 - 12 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Must-Have Skills:

• Working knowledge of clinical trial processes specifically as they relate to Clinical data collection and review

• Experience in Front-end development languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript

• Experience in programming languages such as (SAS, R, React JS, Angular, JSON, Python, SQL) with the ability to learn new programming languages

• Experience in Clinical teams with a focus on data management, database building, or programming (e.g., SQL, C++, JavaScript, XML)

• End-user and/or Administrator experience with Clinical Data Capture software

• Understanding of SaaS/Cloud solutions and technology

• Experience working with system integrators for IRT, medical coding, eSource, Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS), Electronic Trial Master File (eTMF), and other clinical technologies

• Good Problem-solving skills - Identifying and fixing bugs, adapting to changes

• Excellent communication skills - Explaining design decisions, collaborating with teams

• Working knowledge of SAFe Agile principles

Good-to-Have Skills:

• Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)

• Experience with data processing tools like Hadoop, Spark, or similar

• Experience with SAP integration technologies

Professional Certifications (please mention if the certification is preferred or mandatory for the role):

• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Network+, or MCSE (preferred)

Soft Skills:

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work effectively with global, virtual teams

• High degree of initiative and self-motivation

• Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully
