What You’ll Do:
As a Cybersecurity Intern at Whisker, you will assist in monitoring and analyzing security systems to identify and mitigate potential threats, while supporting the development and implementation of security policies and procedures. This role offers hands-on experience in vulnerability assessments, incident response, securing systems, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance Whisker's overall security posture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Monitors security alerts, analyze potential threats, and assists in responding to security incidents
- Conducts regular assessments to identify and address security weaknesses in systems and applications
- Supports the creation and enforcement of security policies, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations
- Assists in configuring and maintaining security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software
- Helps develop and deliver training sessions to educate employees on cybersecurity best practices
- Works closely with IT and other departments to implement security measures and support ongoing projects
- Maintains detailed records of security incidents, assessments, and procedures to support continuous improvement
- Stays updated on emerging cybersecurity threats and technologies to recommend enhancements to existing security measures
- Will perform additional responsibilities when required
Requirements
What You'll Bring:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
- Understanding of information systems security principles and technologies, including networking protocols, data encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems
- Strong problem-solving abilities to investigate and resolve security breaches or potential threats
- Exceptional focus to monitor and analyze logs and alerts from various technologies
- Effective verbal and written communication to collaborate with security teams and other IT departments, and to clearly report findings and recommendations
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and evolving security standards and regulations
- Basic understanding of programming languages and software development to identify potential vulnerabilities in code and application
- Willingness to stay updated on the latest cyber threats and preventive measures
- Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information
- Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions
- A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues
- Comfortable with office pets (cats, dogs)
Not Required but Nice to Have!
- Pursuing or holding certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Familiarity with tools like malware protection, network analyzers, penetration testing frameworks, network scanning tools, or intrusion detection systems
- Understanding of public cloud service providers and technologies used to defend Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS)
- Experience with various operating systems
- Prior experience in IT or cybersecurity roles through internships
- Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Knowledge of frameworks like CIS, NIST, or ISO 27001
