About the workplace
The Disaster Recovery Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the development, maintenance, and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans for both company-hosted and external solutions. The coordinator will work closely with internal teams and external vendors to define and document disaster recovery requirements, and they will lead disaster recovery exercises to ensure readiness. This role requires the ability to assess recovery readiness, update critical documentation (such as runbooks and KPI tracking), and fulfill audit reporting requirements, all while continuously maturing the company's DRP capabilities.
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work in-office at least once a week. This role will also require you to be on-call outside of business hours during major incidents as an escalation point.
A typical day would involve:
- Quickly identifying issues during DRP exercises and real-world incidents, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
Assessing evolving business requirements and technical environments to modify and enhance disaster recovery plans accordingly.
Handling unexpected challenges, such as vendor performance issues, infrastructure failures, or gaps in recovery procedures, while balancing the need for operational continuity with resource limitations. - Clearly conveying the importance of disaster recovery and business continuity efforts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborating with senior leadership, IT teams, business units, and external vendors to ensure DRP requirements and exercises align with organizational needs.
Influencing cross-functional teams to prioritize disaster recovery efforts and drive improvements in recovery processes, ensuring that recovery objectives are met in case of a crisis. - Document DRP Requirements: Define disaster recovery plan requirements for both company-hosted solutions and external solutions. Collaborate with vendor management for external solutions. Create and Maintain DRP Plans: Develop and regularly update disaster recovery plans to align with the organization’s business continuity strategies.
- Audit Reporting: Provide comprehensive reporting to meet audit requirements, ensuring compliance with disaster recovery policies and regulations.
BCP Representative: Serve as the designated line of business representative for Business Continuity Planning within ICE, ensuring business continuity efforts align with overall organizational goals. - Execute DRP Exercises: Schedule, execute, and report on DRP exercises to ensure disaster recovery capabilities are effective and operational.
- Maintain DRP Runbooks: Ensure disaster recovery runbooks are up-to-date, accessible, and user-friendly for recovery staff and incident managers during disaster events.
- KPI Management: Update the BCP system list with DRP KPIs to facilitate effective business impact assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess, refine, and mature the company’s disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring alignment with best practices and evolving industry standards
You have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business continuity, or a related field.
- 3-5 years hands-on experience with Disaster Recovery and business continuity
- Strong knowledge on BCP, DRP, BCM, Risk Management, Vendor Risk Management and Crisis Management.
- The Disaster Recovery Coordinator should possess strong analytical skills to assess risks and develop effective recovery plans, along with project management expertise to oversee DRP exercises and track progress.
- Technical proficiency in IT infrastructure, cloud environments, and disaster recovery tools is essential, as is the ability to document processes and generate audit-compliant reports. The role requires a keen attention to detail, adaptability to changing environments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
- Strong communication skills are crucial for conveying complex recovery strategies to diverse stakeholders, while problem-solving, decision-making under pressure, and leadership abilities are necessary to ensure a smooth and coordinated response during disaster events.
- Have one or more of the following certifications is considered an asset
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP)
- Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer (CDRE)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- ITIL Foundation or Advanced Certifications
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)

The salary range for this role is $71,500.00 to $107,300.00 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
