Become an Instructor for the PROG Development Center

The PROG Development Center is on a mission to uplift individuals of the Greater West Valley City area by bridging technology, education, and community partnerships. As part of our Cybersecurity Certificate Program with Utah Tech and Pluralsight, the Program Instructor plays a crucial role in teaching and supporting participants on their journey to tech careers. We invite industry experts to serve as a Program Instructor to empower the next generation of tech professionals.

The Role of the Program Instructor

The Program Instructor will lead weekly in-person instructional sessions and provide ongoing support to participants enrolled in the PROG Cybersecurity Certification Program. This role involves reinforcing concepts from the online CompTIA Security+ coursework, addressing participant questions, and ensuring learners remain on track to complete the certification successfully. The Program Instructor plays a critical role in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Leadership: Conduct weekly in-person sessions to review key concepts, provide demonstrations, and facilitate hands-on exercises related to CompTIA Security+.
  • Participant Support: Respond to participant inquiries regarding online coursework and assignments via email, GroupMe, Slack or a designated communication platform.
  • Curriculum Implementation: Align weekly instruction with the online coursework provided by Pluralsight and Utah Tech University. Develop supplemental materials, such as slide decks or practice exercises, to enhance participant understanding.
  • Professional Connections: Coordinate guest visitors who can share their story, engage in Q & A sessions, and help expose participants to various companies that work with cybersecurity.
  • Progress Monitoring: Collaborate with the Program Manager to identify and address areas where participants may be falling behind.
  • Motivation and Encouragement: Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages participants to actively engage with the material and stay committed to the program.
  • Program Evaluation: Work with Program Manager to gather feedback from participants on session effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For in an Instructor

Instructor should be enthusiastic about helping individuals break into the tech industry. We seek professionals with experience in tech who can offer instruction, practical advice, professional insight, mentorship, and career preparation support.

Qualifications:

  • Industry Experience: 3+ years of experience in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Familiarity with Pluralsight and other online learning platforms.
  • Certification: Current CompTIA Security+ certification is preferred.
  • Teaching: Previous teaching, mentoring, or training experience is highly desirable.
  • Portfolio Expertise: Experience reviewing or developing tech portfolios is a plus.
  • Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion: A commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for participants of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, experiences and abilities.

Commitment & Time Expectation

  • Weekly In-Person Sessions: Lead once a week in-person evening class at the PROG Development Center to review and reinforce online learning (2 hours).
  • Participant Support: Engage with participants and provide support vis email or a designated communication platform.
  • Position Type: Part-Time, Contract (6-month program duration).

Compensation

  • $10,000 for 6-month contract.
