The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dedicated Risk and Compliance Advisor Senior to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 25-2 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an extraordinary experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are best-in-class workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.
As a participant in the Military Fellowship Program, we understand that in most cases Fellows are ending their active service commitments and actively relocating. Therefore, while participating in the Fellowship program, Fellows are authorized to work remotely. If selected for full time employment, we offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Provides second-line independent oversight, effective challenge, and guidance regarding business products, services, and processes through a risk and compliance framework to ensure they are driven in accordance with regulatory requirements and USAA’s policies and procedures. Responsible for providing compliance and risk management support for a line of business or staff agency in key risk identification, measurement, monitoring, control and reporting, and the understanding and management of risk through appropriate practices and processes to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels.
What you'll do:
- Partners and provides guidance to key collaborators in the business to identify, assess, aggregate and document risks and compliance controls, including risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations, and third-party operations.
- Communicates results of risk and compliance work to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership.
- Implements new risk policies, practices, appetites, and solutions to ensure comprehensive understanding and management of risks according to industry standard methodology.
- Implements assigned risk and compliance activities assigned in accordance with enterprise policies and procedures.
- Maintains and expands advanced knowledge of the competitive/regulatory landscape and the company's key challenges.
- Coordinates and responds to regulatory requirements and requests and ensures the execution of examinations.
- Enhances and contributes to strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks.
- Applies expert risk and compliance knowledge to use or produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.
- Serves as a key contributor in cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging risk events.
- Formulates stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise including the evaluation of results and framing of contingency plans in partnership with key business partners.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- 6 years relevant experience in risk, compliance, legal or audit within the financial services or insurance industry or specialized technical fields directly related to the role.
- Risk and compliance management experience working in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.
- In-depth knowledge of compliance laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to apply regulatory risk and compliance knowledge o to consult and provide insights and guidance to business partners and peers.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution management and ability to effectively challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.
- Ability to effectively work with internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include demonstrated ability to effectively make data-driven decisions.
- Proactively identifies potential concerns and resolves issues.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
What sets you apart:
- Current participant in the Hiring Our Heroes Fellowship Programs 25-2 Cohort or a current contractor at USAA from the 25-1 HOH Non-direct cohort.
- Risk and Compliance industry certifications or other relevant designations (e.g., CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP, ITIL, Certified Systems Auditor (CISA) and ITIL 4 Foundations.
- Understanding of relevant risk management frameworks such as NIST, ITIL, COBIT, and FFIEC, etc.
- Experience in second line of defense, third line of defense, or other risk management oversight function performing reviews of IT Operations domains.
Compensation range: Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program. If selected for a full-time role, the salary range for this position is: $114,080 - $218,030.
Compensation: If selected for a full-time role, USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
