ABOUT THE ROLE

 

We are seeking a student to join us for a 4 – 8 month temporary position starting in May 2025 to gain hands-on experience in Reliability Compliance with TransAlta Corporation at our head office in Calgary, AB.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Reliability Compliance, the Student works collaboratively with a broad range of internal stakeholders to execute continuous improvement activities related to TransAlta’s reliability compliance program. TransAlta is required to comply with NERC reliability standards for its fleet of wind, solar, hydroelectric, and thermal generation facilities across North America. More specifically, TransAlta is required to comply with standards which address the following topicsThis is a full-time, temporary, 4–8-month position with an ideal start date of early May 2025. This role is based out of our head office in downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule:

 

•    Cyber Security
•    Facility Ratings
•    Protection Systems
•    Real-time System Operation
•    Power System Studies and Modelling
•    Vegetation Management
 

This is a full-time, temporary position of 4-8 months, with an ideal start date of early May 2025. This role is based out of our head office in downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Review and maintain compliance-specific procedures. 

  • Review and maintain external stakeholder contact lists.

  • Design, conduct, and evaluate training and awareness activities for reliability compliance.

  • Manage TransAlta’s database of technical functional specifications, waivers, and variance.

  • Support implementation of work management notifications to ensure that periodic activities are completed on time.

  • Support compliance monitoring processes including evidence gathering, assessment, and packaging.

  • Support implementation of automation for evidence assessment or reporting.

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience: 

 

  • Currently enrolled in a university or college degree program related to business management, communications, economics, engineering, or law. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, communication and professional writing skills, and attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workloads, meet deadlines and resolve conflicting priorities.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • High level of attention to detail

 

Nice to Haves 

 

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential: 

 

  • Knowledge/experience with electric utility operations and regulations 
  • Experience with programming, data modeling, and data visualization, including experience with Power BI, SQL, or Python
