The Facilities and Services (F&S) IT team manages multiple public networks and F&S’s secure private network, which extends across the St. George campus. Our infrastructure includes over 100 virtual machines (VMs), more than 350 network switches, nearly 200 uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and thousands of connected devices. This network supports essential systems in nearly every building, including security cameras, door access controllers, building automation systems, chillers, electrical meters, steam meters, and smart lighting systems.

Your opportunity:

With the growing sophistication of cyber threats, evolving compliance requirements, and the expansion of our digital environment, there is a pressing need for a dedicated role focused exclusively on our IT security. Reporting to the Manager, Systems, Payroll & Operational development, the IT Security Administrator will act as a critical enabler to strengthen theF&S IT security posture. This position will ensure proactive risk management, the development and implementation of robust security protocols, and the continuous monitoring of our systems to protect sensitive data and maintain operational integrity.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Planning, developing and implementing network security audits independently
  • Developing and implementing contingency plans for network related software/hardware failures
  • Planning and implementing expansion and enhancement of IT networks independently
  • Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems
  • Executing security measures for network devices and introducing variations as required
  • Troubleshooting network performance issues
  • Documenting network-related activities or tasks
  • Liaising with IT departments and clients regarding translation of business requirements into technical specifications

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years experience in IT System Administration / Security Administration Experience
  • Experience in analyzing, troubleshooting, and testing complex IT security systems.
  • Hands-on experience with security monitoring, incident response, and threat management.
  • Experience in configuring, managing, and securing enterprise IT infrastructure (servers, firewalls, endpoints, virtual environments).
  • Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and problem solving skills


Assets (Nonessential):

 

 

  • Security certification ( e.g. CISSP, CIPP, etc.)
  • Technical experience with at least one vulnerability management tool (e.g., Tenable, Qualys, OpenVAS).
  • Proficiency to network architecture, TCP/IP networking, VPN, VLAN, NAT and security concepts
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, shell, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively with external vendors and all levels of academic, administrative and IT staff.
  • Familiarity with security principles in cloudenvironments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
