Sword Group is a world-leading IT and digital transformation partner that helps streamline your business, improve quality and reduce costs.We are seeking an Expert in DevSecOps to join our team at Sword Technologies S.A. within the European Commission, Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT). The selected candidate will work within Unit DIGIT.A.4, which is responsible for delivering high-quality corporate business solutions, reusable frameworks, and interoperable components to support the Commission’s digital transformation initiatives.
The candidate will be part of the Compass Corporate Business Rules Engine team, focusing on consolidating a Business Rule service used across multiple components. The interactions with these components are based on Kafka messaging, requiring strong expertise in Apache Kafka. The current implementation relies on the Drools (KIE 7.73.0) engine running in a Spring Boot service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the Business Rule service within the Compass Corporate environments.
- Provide expert advice to business developers on writing and optimizing business rules.
- Define technical recommendations for real-time business rule use cases.
- Offer expertise in CI/CD pipeline configuration and Business Rule service tuning.
- Monitor platform performance and proactively address potential issues.
- Advise on the best practices for Kubernetes container platforms (e.g., PKS, Tanzu, TKGI, AWS EKS) in relation to the Business Rule service.
- Define the procedure for migrating the service to AWS EKS with minimal business impact.
- Perform Linux systems administration tasks and scripting.
- Ensure system performance monitoring, availability, and issue resolution to prevent service disruptions.
- Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance risks related to the Business Rule service.
- Apply best practices in distributed architecture to solve complex integration problems between information systems and Kubernetes microservices.
- Configure and manage microservice lifecycles in a container-based infrastructure.
- Define and configure monitoring dashboards and alerting policies for operational teams.
- Provide training and documentation on existing procedures and enhancements.
- Enhance automation levels within the system.
Requirements
Your Profile
Minimum of 6 years of experience in DevSecOps with the following skills and expertise:
- Deep expertise in Drools: Creating, optimizing, and managing Drools rules, rule flows, and decision tables.
- Rule authoring and testing: Proficient in writing complex rules and implementing testing strategies (JUnit, etc.).
- KIE Platform expertise: Configuring, deploying, and maintaining the KIE Workbench and Execution Server.
- Java Development: Strong background in Java programming due to its integration with Drools.
- CI/CD and DevOps: Experience in CI/CD pipelines, automation tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI), and deployment best practices.
- Containerization & Kubernetes: Experience in Docker & Kubernetes, particularly for deploying the KIE platform and rules.
- System Integration & APIs: Proficiency in integrating Drools with external systems via REST or SOAP APIs.
- Performance Optimization: Expertise in analyzing and enhancing Drools rule execution and memory usage.
- Version Control: Experience with rule versioning using Git or Bitbucket.
- Security Best Practices: Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and data integrity in Drools.
- Large-Scale CEP (Complex Event Processing): Expertise in clustering for large-scale event processing.
- Ability to work in international/multicultural environments and handle multiple large-scale projects.
- Strong communication skills in English (C1/C2); knowledge of French (B2) or other EU languages is an advantage.
- High degree of discretion and integrity, as the applications managed contain personal and confidential data.

- Designing Business Rules: Experience in defining, implementing, and maintaining enterprise business rules.
- KIE Platform Deployment: Proven track record in deploying and configuring the KIE Workbench and Execution Server.
- CI/CD Pipeline Implementation: Experience in designing CI/CD pipelines for business rule updates and deployments.
- Large-Scale Rule Management: Managing and optimizing large rule repositories in dynamic environments.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with business analysts and domain experts to translate business logic into executable rules.
- System Integration: Experience integrating Drools with ERP, CRM, or other enterprise applications.
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Expertise in identifying and resolving issues within Drools rule engines and pipelines.
- Performance Tuning: Experience in improving rule execution time, scalability, and system throughput.
- Version Management & Rollback: Implementing systems for tracking rule changes and rolling back safely when needed.
- Training & Documentation: Providing training for teams and maintaining detailed documentation for rules and pipelines.
