Summary/Objective: A Security Systems Engineer is responsible for securing the IT infrastructure such as networks, servers and storage. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, implementing network security measures to protect data, software and hardware. Participate in determining security requirements, risk mitigation strategies and information security solutions while updating/testing security and incident response plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for analyzing and supporting security controls on the network, endpoints and server systems
- Responsible for supporting the patch management processes for security and systems updates to all network related devices/operating systems
- Responsible for analyzing and remediation of periodic vulnerability assessments
- Responsible for supporting processes such as managing web browsing protections, email protection, web contact filtering and secure file transfer of sensitive business processes
- Responsible for log collection, correlation, reviews, archival, retention and monitoring of automated alerts for items such as, and not limited to: IPS/IDS alerts, firewall alerts, malware alerts, exploit alerts, etc
- Responsible for administering the Splunk environment including creating dashboards, alerting, tuning, integrating system
- Responsible for configuration and administration of log collection software
- Proactive threat hunting, vulnerability assessments and security recommendations to improve our security posture.
- Creation of security policies, guidelines and frameworks.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science – desired but not required, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience in the computer technology field
Experience:
- 3+ years' experience supporting security components and applying security best practices across an enterprise application/network infrastructure.
- 3+ years' experience with IT Systems, network and systems management technologies
- 3+ years' experience administering and using Splunk in an enterprise environment.
- Experience in managing/using products in areas of Vulnerability Management, Patch Management, IPS/IDS
Competencies:
- Knowledge of TCP/IP: familiarity with major application-layer protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, SMTP, DNS, etc
- Must be able to read and understand a packet trace; must be able read and interpret network access control logs and lists
- Understanding of a variety of network and application attacks: example include DoS/DDoS, buffer overflows, SQL injection, reconnaissance scanning, and evasive methods attackers use to avoid detection; must be able to demonstrate a minimum level of familiarity with well-known vulnerabilities and exploits
- Understanding of Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Defender
- Understanding of Microsoft Active Directory structure and security
Licenses/Certifications Required: Security+, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) or similar certification highly preferred.
Travel: Approximately 5- 10% of travel is anticipated.
