As a Senior Security Engineer, you will take the lead on several security platform implementations – this will involve creating the design documentation, making changes, engaging stakeholders, and owning the platform through deployment and into operation.

Please note all candidates must be Australian Citizens and hold a minimum of NV1 AGSVA security clearance to be considered. This role will require you to hold and maintain an NV2 AGSVA security clearance.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver outcomes to a high standard by actively collaborating in security engineering or network design, change implementation, and support of platform, applications, services, and product issues. This includes operation and support of a complex integration layer deployment.

  • Significantly contribute to the design, build, installation, integration, and maintenance of multiple complex cyber security technologies, platforms, applications, services, products, and/or systems.

  • Assess the capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in making recommendations for vendor solutions.

  • Take an active role in managing vendor performance and technology delivery to ensure that agreed technical functionality, time, and cost outcomes are met.

  • Document your work to ensure that business continuity, security, and operational activity can seamlessly be supported and maintained by others.

  • Actively engage in enhancing and improving CI/CD capabilities (testing, automation) to reduce cycle time while retaining quality.

  • Define and operationalise, in collaboration with key stakeholders, appropriate security controls in network architecture and technologies to protect Telstra and customer information, systems, and network assets.

  • Provide input into the security strategy, standards, and frameworks to ensure security controls and hygiene are built into network engineering and technology designs and processes.

  • Authentically engage with the business and leverage customer feedback to initiate continuous improvements in security engineering and technology designs that are fit for purpose and meet customer requirements.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and coaching by modelling Telstra and best practice security engineering standards and actively develop less experienced engineers through coaching, mentoring, and collaboration.

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in promoting security awareness and/or network or technology issues to Leaders/stakeholders.

  • Translate customer needs and requirements into realisable and commercially viable secure products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure and platforms.

About you:

  • Hold a minimum of NV1 AGSVA security clearance.

  • At least 5 years of relevant recent experience in the role.

  • High levels of experience administering and implementing software running on Red Hat and Windows operating systems.

  • Specific experience administering IT Security tools within the areas of SIEM, SOAR, EDR

  • Experience mentoring Junior Engineers.

  • Knowledge of IT Security threats, vulnerabilities, and attack methods.

  • Knowledge of Australian Government IT Security policies (e.g., Information Security Manual) – highly desirable.

  • Relevant Security certification such as CISSP, CISM, etc.
