Overview

Steampunk wants you to be a Technical Editor to support one of our federal customers in the Washington DC area. The role is expected to have hybrid (both on-site and remote) work requirements.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced write and editor with a proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to executive and C-suite level audiences. This requires fluency in Information Technology and cybersecurity, and the ability to proactively collaborate with technical experts to identify and distill the essential information needed by executives in other parts of the organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills, the ability to work independently with limited guidance, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. They will bring value to the role by ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strategic alignment in all communications, even under rapidly changing requirements.

Contributions

· Compose, edit, and review official communications, including reports, briefings, response letters, and policy documents, to accurately represent the perspectives of branch leadership.

· Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including IT and cybersecurity experts, to ensure technical accuracy, strategic alignment, and clear messaging in all communications.

· Proactively build relationships with IT and cybersecurity professionals in the organization, ensuring their work and technical expertise is accurately represented in official documentation.

· Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and compelling narratives suitable for executive and C-suite audiences.

· Demonstrate initiative and adaptability by independently drafting documents that maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

· Manage the review and approval process for high-level documents, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate delivery.

· Ensure consistency in tone, style, and messaging across all external communications, tailored appropriately for diverse audiences and stakeholders.

· Provide editorial guidance and support to internal teams, fostering a culture of high-quality communication across the organization.

· Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements in all written communications.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field.

· 5+ years of experience in technical writing or editing, preferably within the IT or cybersecurity industry.

· Demonstrated expertise in communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical executive audiences, with a proven ability to collaborate with technical experts to produce clear and concise documents.

· Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

· Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of working independently to produce high-quality work with limited guidance.

· Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

· Proficiency with content management systems and document collaboration tools.

· Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience tailoring technical documents for various audiences and stakeholders, including executive leadership and external regulatory agencies.

· Background in Information Technology and/or Cybersecurity, including familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST RMF or other related standards.

· Understanding of compliance processes, audits, and associated types of documentation.

· Professional certifications such as Certified Technical Communicator (CTC) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
