Our Cyber Security Apprenticeship is exciting and demanding - combining working and studying at the same time, learning the most advanced cyber security tools available. Our Cyber Apprentices work alongside experienced cyber professionals to build their knowledge and skills.
Our apprentices’ study for a nationally recognised qualification and gain hands-on experience with the latest security technologies available in industry to prepare them for a career in cyber security.
It is an exciting, comprehensive apprenticeship programme which focuses on developing sound knowledge of cyber security tools, network intrusions, penetration testing, threat intelligence and how to identify and protect against cyber threats.
The two-year course will combine working with Anglo American’s Information Management (IM) department to develop practical skills, alongside studies to gain a Level 4 qualification.
The programme prepares candidates for roles including Security Operations Analyst and Cyber Security GRC Analyst.
Job Description
- Contribute to the intelligence collection plan to support all reporting products.
- Identify, collect, and analyse complex/volumetric data to produce accurate threat models to support the business decision making process.
- Contribute to routine reporting to the global business.
- Participate in threat hunting efforts across the global estate in order to identify threats to the global business.
- Assist in the production full reports of threats identified including any guidance required to protect against a threat.
- Assist in coordinating multiple business units during incidents and establishing required work and dissemination of tasks to relevant business personnel.
- Assist in the development of remediation strategies and gain business unit buy in for actions required.
- Carry out remediation activities/tasks, tracking global workflows and providing feedback during remediation efforts.
- Research new infections to identify all Indicators of Compromise and develop remediation strategies for future infections of the same variant.
- Remediate infected devices and develop pattern and trend analysis and root cause analysis.
- Assist with the collection and exploitation of evidence sources in a forensically and legally sound manner and execute the plan accordingly.
- Support business units in internal investigations, providing evidence to human resources and internal audit functions in line with the Digital Investigation Specialist’s direction.
- Support user awareness training to global business units
- Monitor and analyse future attack trends to build gap analysis reports of current vs future training needs.
- Support scanning of the global network and produce reporting to advise the business of any vulnerabilities.
- Support engagement with IT service provider and frontline services to define a remediation strategy for any vulnerabilities found
- Complete all apprenticeship provider assigned projects and tasks on time.
- Manage own personal study.
- Prepare for and pass all relevant examinations pertinent to apprenticeship pathway.
This work involves practical judgement based on knowledge and experience of learned routines. It involves real-time problem-solving, as a sequence of steps whereby an individual continues along a known pathway until an obstacle is perceived, then uses practical judgement to overcome it.

Qualifications
To have at least 3 A Levels or level 3 equivalent and 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English or an equivalent qualification.
To not hold any other Level 4 (or above) qualifications in the cyber discipline, as this makes potential apprentices ineligible.
