GENERAL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a highly motivated postgraduate college student to join our Cyber Security team as an intern. The intern will work with our experienced Cyber Security professionals and gain hands-on experience in protecting the organization’s information systems and data from cyber-attacks. This is a paid internship designed to provide the intern with real-world experience in Cyber Security.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES:
• Must be enrolled in an academic post-graduate program at an educational institution listed in the US Department of Education’s Database of Accredited
Postsecondary Institutions and Programs with plans to enroll in classes the following semester.
• Must be taking classes towards a Computer Science or Computer Security related field.
• Must be available to work on-site for the duration of the internship, with the possibility of remote work as appropriate.
• Must be a US citizen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in collecting and analyzing event information and performs threat analysis duties.
2. Assist in assigning an initial priority and an associated tracking number to new events and cyber requests.
3. Assist in facilitating and expediting the tracking, handling, and reporting of all security events and incidents in accordance with departmental policies.
4. Assist in conducting Cyber Security assessment and risk management activities.
5. Assist with vulnerability assessments and penetration testing for specific applications, services, networks and servers as required.
6. Assist in recording and tracking IT security incidents, including but not limited to compromised accounts, e-mail threats, and abuse reports from various
sources.
7. Assist in facilitating the Department’s Cyber Security Awareness Training program.
8. Assist with researching and evaluating emerging Cyber Security technologies.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with taking classes towards a post-graduate degree in Computer Science or Computer Security related field.
Experience – None.
Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
Regulatory knowledge – Must possess a working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislations, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
Presentation/Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.
Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change.
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
