We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer to support the operations and maintenance of the NAS Data Warehouse (NAS-DW). This role is critical to ensuring the availability, security, and efficiency of data warehouse infrastructure located in Ashburn, VA, and Atlantic City, NJ. The engineer will focus on system integration, lifecycle maintenance, troubleshooting, and technology implementation to meet FAA operational requirements. This position requires strong expertise in Linux environments (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Solaris) and networking, with a particular emphasis on VLAN configurations and Cisco firewall management in complex storage and virtualization environments. 



Requirements

  

Responsibilities:
• Maintain and support the NAS Data Warehouse infrastructure, ensuring 99.9% availability, with a particular focus on the network infrastructure and performance.
• Design, implement, and manage VLAN configurations for iSCSI storage and fiber channel connections, ensuring optimal network traffic flow, segregation, and security.
• Configure and support Cisco ASA firewalls, including Network Address Translation (NAT), and manage VPN tunnels for secure site-to-site communication across multiple data center locations.
• Administer and optimize network switches in a complex environment, with particular emphasis on high-performance iSCSI storage configurations and associated VLANs.
• Install, configure, integrate, and manage hardware and software components for networking, storage, and system functionality.
• Provide in-depth networking troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations, especially related to VLAN and fiber channel configurations.
• Ensure compliance with FAA security baselines, including security patching and CIS security controls, with a focus on securing networking elements and firewalls.
• Deploy and maintain virtualization platforms (VMware, Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)) and their associated network configurations.
• Collaborate with the team to design, implement, and maintain high-availability networking solutions, including fault-tolerant designs for iSCSI storage and network paths.
• Research and implement emerging technologies, including advanced networking features in Linux-based environments, particularly RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Solaris.
• Provide proactive and reactive network infrastructure management support and user training.
• Document system configurations, prepare reports, and provide recommendations for network and infrastructure enhancements.

  

Technical Skills:
• Expertise in network administration, including VLAN configurations, Cisco ASA firewall management, NAT (Network Address Translation), and VPN tunnels.
• Proficient in Cisco networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), with a strong focus on iSCSI storage network design and fiber channel connectivity.
• Strong expertise in Linux system administration, specifically with RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Solaris platforms.
• Experience with cloud and virtualized environments, particularly AWS, VMware, and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in network protocols and traffic management (LAN/WAN, VPN, routing, switching).
• Strong understanding of backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket), Apache Kafka, and Microsoft .NET.
• Experience implementing security solutions and maintaining compliance with industry standards, especially in network and firewall configurations.

• Experience with FAA systems and compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of DevOps methodologies and automation tools.
• Familiarity with geospatial computing using PostGIS.
• Experience with high-availability and fault-tolerant network design.

  

Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  

Certification Requirements:
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP).
• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent.
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) preferred.
• Security+ or CISSP preferred.

  

Additional Information:
• This position may require travel between Ashburn, VA, and Atlantic City, NJ.
• On-call support may be required.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and obtain necessary security clearance if required.
