Position Overview

  • The Engineering team in Siemens Gamesa is responsible for providing technical and compliance obligations for the lifecycle of large-scale Offshore Windfarms. These opportunities allow SGRE to start recruiting for a NERC/CIP Engineer to lead and execute the technical performance of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm

  • A successful candidate will have or be willing to develop a thorough understanding of NERC/CIP regulations and have a background in providing technical support to large generation assets. Wind industry experience preferred and a solid technical background in industrial SCADA systems will be beneficial for your development pathway.

  • The role will be based out of Norfolk, VA and during the ramp up phase of the project will be working closely with global SCADA/Cyber teams, the Turbine Supply team, and the customer to ensure NERC governance for the project. This is key role in supporting the development of the NERC landscape whilst ensuring optimum technical performance of the operating assets.

Responsibilities

  • Ultimately responsible for NERC compliance gates in accordance with internal and customer processes.

  • Supports and consults internal/external customers in implementing the required (software and hardware) product & solution security.

  • Supports project teams in conducting security activities during the offshore windfarm’s lifecycle, project management process and / or services.

  • Coordinates with the TE organization at regional and global levels.

  • Synchronize adequately with Information Security organization to ensure that the development, manufacturing, and integration of IT-infrastructure is sufficiently secure (e.g., to ensure confidentiality, integrity or availability of source code, binaries and configuration).

  • Ensures that security is adequately reflected in skills, processes, and technologies (tools, platforms) used for service delivery.

  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the security measures and supports in incident handling.

  • Supports the regional/global SCADA team to build up required competencies for product & solution security within the project team.

  • Development of multilevel NERC/CIP SCADA OT Security Competence Framework for site team – Technicians/Site Leads/ Support Engineers.

  • Reviews documents produced during the development and engineering process (e.g., threat and risk analysis results, requirements specification, architecture and design, test specification, user documentation) regarding product & solution security.

  • Planning and performing threat and risk analysis and definition of countermeasures in line with risk acceptance criteria of the wind farm owner.

  • Evaluation of third-party components regarding product & solution security.

  • Verifies implementation regarding security requirements (e.g., as part of system test, factory, or site acceptance test).

  • Involvement in the analysis and handling of security vulnerabilities & incidents.

  • Maintain and support the SCADA Systems integration to the customer site and continuously maintain the project infrastructure to ensure compliance to all customer NERC/CIP processes.

  • Assist other SCADA team members, Engineering & field personnel in root cause analysis and troubleshooting SCADA and security systems.

  • Prepare & maintain technical documentation related to SCADA/Cyber security both for internal (SCADA team, Operation) and for external (customers).

  • Suggest product strategies and priorities with engineering and sales teams.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, IT security, Certified Information Systems, or related field of study mandatory.

  • Strong knowledge of NERC CIP Cyber security for power plants, preferably renewables (Wind).

  • Must be familiar & worked minimum 5 years with any industrial standard SCADA systems /cyber security projects on SCADA (preferably in power industry).

  • Travel may require up to 10%.

  • Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States. Qualified applicants will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States.

  • Experience with NERC CIP standards (e.g. CIP-002 to CIP-013) and cybersecurity frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, or similar with preferred certifications including CISSP, CSSLP or other relevant cybersecurity credentials.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical details and compliance requirements to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and their integration in a NERC CIP compliant environment for critical infrastructure such as wind farms or power plants.

  • Experience in preparing for NERC CIP audits, ensuring audit readiness, and handling regulatory reporting.

  • Experience in managing and reporting compliance status to regulators and stakeholders.

  • Strong working knowledge to various Database – like SQL.

  • Must be familiar with industrial standards protocols – MODBUS, DNP, IEC, OPC.

  • Strong networking experience (CCNA certification or equivalent).

  • Strong Windows Server knowledge (any Microsoft cert preferable or equivalent).

  • Basic knowledge about power systems and regulation standards.


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Instrumentation related to SCADA /Control systems.

  • Wind Turbine Technology Experience.

  • Understanding of basic wind turbine components and functions, Direct Drive Technology.

  • Experience leading training and awareness programs for site personnel and ensuring all stakeholders are aligned with BERC CIP standards.
