The Director of Safety and Security Systems is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all security measures, access control, and surveillance technologies at Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass. This role ensures the safety of Guests, Team Members, and assets while maintaining a welcoming and seamless visitor experience. The director will lead a team, collaborate with law enforcement, and integrate state-of-the-art security systems tailored to a high-traffic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Systems & Technology:
- Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of access control, CCTV surveillance, intrusion detection, and emergency response systems.
- Evaluate and implement new technology (AI-driven, other) security solutions, including facial recognition, behavioral analytics, and automated threat detection.
- Manage security software platforms for real-time monitoring and response coordination.
Operational Security & Risk Management:
- Develop and enforce security protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response plans.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analysis to identify potential security threats.
- Oversee security personnel (internal teams and contracted services) and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Monitor and respond to incidents, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
Access Control & Visitor Management:
- Implement and manage smart access control systems, including RFID, biometric authentication, and access control systems.
- Ensure seamless entry and exit procedures while balancing security and Guest experience.
- Design safety screening protocols for elevated entry needs (VIPs, events, lounge Guests), restricted areas, and Team Member access control.
Crisis & Emergency Response:
- Develop and test emergency response plans for threats such as active shooters, natural disasters, and medical emergencies.
- Train security team and departments on emergency procedures and evacuation drills.
- Lead post-incident reviews and implement corrective measures.
Compliance & Legal Coordination:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal security regulations.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Work closely with legal teams on liability and compliance matters.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership:
- Partner with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and private security firms.
- Collaborate with the IT team and partners to integrate cybersecurity protocols with physical security systems.
- Train and develop security Team Members, fostering a culture of safety and vigilance.
Safety Team Management
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of safety officers to deliver professional, courteous, and Guest-focused service.
- Manage Team Members to ensure consistent adherence to Safety Operations and Guest Experience standards to ensure the safety and security of our organization, Team Members, Guests, assets, and facilities.
- Continue to foster and grow a culture that embraces Transformational Moments and our company Values to create a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in security leadership, preferably in theme parks, resorts, large venues, or high-traffic tourist destinations.
- Expertise in access control systems, surveillance technologies, and emergency response strategies.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DHS, FEMA, and other regulatory guidelines.
- Proven experience in crisis management, risk assessment, and security personnel training.
- Familiarity with cyber-physical security integration.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Certifications: First Aid, CPR, AED certification required; additional safety or security certifications (e.g., OSHA, CPP, CISSP-ISSMP) are a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Ability to respond to emergencies on short notice; reachable by phone or email on off hours.

Full time, Salaried position
Salary Range: $115,000 - $140,000 DOE + Bonus up to 20%
