Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Security Analyst I – Boca Raton, FL.

The Security Analyst I is responsible for working with the Information Security team to ensure the security of university assets and sensitive information.

Summary of Responsibilities include:

  • Supports and advises University departments and units on information security and compliance needs including system security, network security, research security, software security, and regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Assists with the planning, deployment, and management of University networked security devices including firewalls, IPSes, and VPNs.

  • Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of information security controls through the use of assessments and scans of university assets including vulnerability scans and network asset scanners.

  • Ensures University electronic devices are configured to appropriately protect university data assets consistent with university policies and appropriate information security standards.

  • Monitors network security performance and connectivity.

  • Provide recommendations and justification for new security controls to the Director of Information Security.

  • Troubleshoots interoperability problems among different systems related to IT security.

  • Works on information security projects as directed by the Director of Information Security.

  • Reviews and monitors security events and network traffic for signs of possible intrusion or compromise.

  • Works with other information security staff with operational tasks including firewall modification, privileged access removal, log/event review, and end-user support tickets.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the OIT Director of Information Security.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience.

Basic network troubleshooting

Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced work environment

Ability to investigate incidents and identify false positives from real threats

Basic TCP/IP Knowledge, including TCP, UDP, and ICMP

Ability to communicate both professionally and efficiently in verbal and written communication

Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.

Basic knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, basic troubleshooting, and DNS.

Prior experience in systems administration or demonstrated knowledge of managing servers running Linux and Windows and Active Directory basics.

Prior experience working in an IT customer service role.


Certification Requirements:

Information security at FAU must comply with regulatory compliance requirements and one of those is ensuring that individuals are appropriately trained and skilled for their roles in Information Security.

As a result, this position has certification requirements in line with its responsibilities, however, the department will cover training and certification costs except for multiple exam retakes. FAU has standardized on SANS training and certification. A successful candidate for this position will be required to complete the SANS GSEC certification prior to the end of their first 6 months. This certification includes approximately 60 hours of online instruction, a 4-hour exam, and appropriate study and review time. This training, studying, and taking the exam can be performed during regular work hours. In addition, an additional certification will be required within 6-18 months after the first one in order to meet IAT level 3 requirements under DOD 8570 requirements – either a GCED or GCIH.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with managing firewall, operating system, and file system security for Windows and Linux desktops and servers.

Experience with encryption technologies used for network, file and full-disk encryption.

Experienced in configuration and support of enterprise VPN Infrastructure.

Experienced in stand-alone hardware-based firewall management and monitoring.

Experience with managing and monitoring Intrusion prevention systems.

Salary:

$70,000 - $75,000 per year.
