The Role

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Security Operations to join our Global Security Operations team. Based in Cork, Ireland, this leadership role will oversee key aspects of global Incident Response, threat hunting, automation, and orchestration, as well as act as the deputy for the Global Head of Security Operations.

As the Sr. Manager, you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled Incident Response team, serving as the primary escalation point for our 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC). Your role will drive continuous improvements in our security event management processes while fostering a proactive, threat-focused culture within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global Incident Response Leadership: Oversee and enhance Proofpoint’s global incident response (IR) program, ensuring effective coordination and timely mitigation of security incidents.

  • Build & Lead a High-Performing IR Team: Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of security operations professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration, and driving advanced threat detection, response, and forensic investigations.

  • Escalation Point for 24/7 SOC: Act as the senior escalation point for complex security incidents, supporting SOC analysts and ensuring efficient response to critical threats.

  • Automation & Orchestration: Implement and optimize security automation and orchestration workflows to enhance detection, response, and remediation capabilities.

  • Threat Hunting & Threat Assessment: Develop and lead proactive threat-hunting programs, leveraging intelligence and analytics to identify emerging threats before they impact the business.

  • Security Event Management: Improve security event triage and analysis processes, ensuring swift detection, categorization, and resolution of security threats.

  • Deputy for Global Head of Security Operations: Serve as the second-in-command for the Global Head of Security Operations, representing the function in executive discussions and driving strategic initiatives.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Threat Intelligence, Security Engineering, IT, and Risk & Compliance teams to strengthen Proofpoint’s overall security posture.

  • Security Strategy & Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation and best practices within security operations, ensuring continuous enhancements in detection, response, and threat mitigation.

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience in Security Operations, Incident Response, and Threat Management, with proven experience in a leadership role.

  • Expert knowledge of security frameworks (MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, CIS, ISO 27001) and attack detection methodologies.

  • Strong technical expertise in SIEM, EDR, SOAR, threat intelligence, and cloud security monitoring.

  • Proven experience in leading security incident response teams in a complex, global enterprise environment.

  • Hands-on experience with threat hunting, forensic analysis, malware analysis, and log correlation.

  • Strong understanding of automation and orchestration in security event management (e.g., SOAR platforms like Splunk Phantom, Palo Alto Cortex XSOAR).

  • Experience working in a 24/7 security operations environment, with the ability to support escalations and incident response outside of regular business hours as needed.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC (GCIH, GCFA, GCED), or equivalent are highly desirable.
