Job Description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking an exceptional and experienced Lead System Platform Architect to join our team supporting critical missions for a unique SOCOM customer. This position offers the opportunity to lead a team of engineers in designing, building and implementing a secure private cloud platform tailored to the customer's unique operational needs.

HOW A SYSTEMS ENGINEER SR ADVISOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Lead Systems Platform Architect will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and administrators in developing and executing a comprehensive cloud smart strategy focused on establishing a robust and resilient hybrid cloud environment for a SOCOM customer. This role involves defining the architecture., security posture and operational processes for the SOCOM customer private cloud, as well as overseeing application migration efforts and ensuring alignment with DoD regulations for handling classified information.



WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:


● Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science


● Required Experience: 10+ years of related experience

● Required Technical Skills:

  • Private Cloud Architecture and Design:  Lead the design and implementation of a highly available, secure and scalable private cloud platform tailored to JSOC’s mission requirements. Define the underlying infrastructure (compute, storage, networking), virtualization strategy, and security architecture.
  • Application Migration & Modernization: Develop and execute a comprehensive application migration strategy for transitioning existing JSOC applications to the private cloud environment. Lead the assessment, refactoring, and deployment of applications using cloud-native technologies like microservices, containers and serverless architectures where appropriate within the private cloud context.
  • Private Cloud Security & Compliance: Define and enforce security policies and procedures aligned with DoD regulations for handling classified information (NIST, STIGs, CMMC) specifically within the private cloud environment. Oversee vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response activities tailored to the unique characteristics of the private cloud infrastructure.


● Security Clearance Level: TS/SCI

● Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Build and lead a team of skilled engineers and administrators, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and fostering collaboration. Conduct code reviews, performance evaluations, and career development planning for team members. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with Command leadership, operators, analysts, and IT specialists. Gather requirements, understand operational workflows, and ensure the private cloud platform meets their evolving needs effectively.
  • Cloud Smart Strategy & Innovation: Champion a cloud-smart mindset within GDIT and advocate for the adoption of best practices for developing and deploying applications in the private-cloud, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, security, agility, and mission impact. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and evaluate their potential applicability to unit missions within the context of the private cloud environment.

● Preferred Skills:

  • Proven track record of leading teams of engineers and architects in delivering complex cloud projects, specifically within private cloud environments.
  • Deep expertise in private cloud architectures, virtualization technologies (e.g. VMWare vSphere, KVM), and cloud management platforms.
  • Extensive experience with containerization technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture as applicable to private cloud deployments.
  • Strong understanding of security protocols, and standards relevant to DoD environments (NIST, STIGs, CMMC) specifically for private cloud implementations.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and object-oriented programming languages (Java, Go).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

The likely salary range for this position is $131,750 - $178,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
