Job Title - Security Operations Intern
Division - The Weir Group
Location - Glasgow, Scotland


Purpose of Role:

The Security Internship Programme is part of of the IT&T Core Services Unit with a focus on the Cyber & Security Operations team that is made up of Level 1 Security Analysts, Level 2 Security Analysts, Level 3 Security Analysts and Security Engineers. Time can also be spent within the Security Governance and Risk function.

The Internship Scheme will last 3 months. The placement opportunities include:

1. Security Operations - incident response and investigation, threat hunting and threat intelligence

2. Security Engineering - security tooling configuration, vulnerability scanning, security change management

3. Vulnerability Management - vulnerability triage and investigation, vulnerability reporting and risk/impact assessments

3. Governance and Policy - security training and awareness, policy development and assurance activities

This internship may include:

  • Investigating cyber events, cyber threats and cyber incidents
  • Operating software to protect systems and information infrastructure i.e. XDR, SIEM, SOAR and Vulnerability Management platforms
  • Documenting confirmed security threats and breaches and assess possible impact
  • Preparing operational reports
  • Documenting procedures and methodologies
  • Supporting the implementation of new tools and technologies
  • Working alongside our Vulnerability Management resources to investigate environments for anomalies and promote best practice resolutions
  • Working alongside our Threat Intelligence resources to conduct Threat Intelligence reviews of Open and Dark Web feeds using commercial and Open-Source tools.
  • Engaging in knowledge-sharing, both internally and externally
  • Final week presentation on a security-focused research topic

Key Responsibilities:
· Contribute to Operational Security Efforts: As a security intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operational security activities within The Weir Group. This responsibility entails actively participating in various tasks aimed at maintaining the security posture of systems, networks, and data.
· Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: As a security intern, you will be expected to foster strong working relationships with colleagues across different teams to facilitate effective collaboration and promote a culture of security throughout the organisation.
· Security Research: As a security intern, you will be tasked with conducting research into emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and trends in the field of cybersecurity. This responsibility involves staying informed about the latest developments in cyber threats and technologies, analysing security research papers, contributing to the organisation's knowledge base on cybersecurity and presenting your findings.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

· Foundational knowledge of information and cyber security
• The ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
• Self-motivated individual with a flexible and positive approach to work.

• A genuine interest and passion for the Information Security industry and a belief that security is a business enabler.
