Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Network Systems Engineer (25-117) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • In this role the candidate will serve as a Network Systems Engineer (SE). As a Network SE, the Network SE shall act as a Junior Engineer on the NES ART and will help develop and implement the Network Systems Engineering Plan.
  • The Networks SE will act as a liaison with other Network SE between the Networks ART and the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Resource Managed Area (RMA) and ensure that all processes and procedures are aligned and standardized.
  • Candidate will help with all Networks requirements activities to include identification and management of Networks requirements baseline.
  • Candidate will help support the development and review of system engineering artifacts (e.g. specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.) and author/perform formal and informal engineering review as required.
  • Candidate will be responsible for helping develop high-level design material to be incorporated into existing baselined Missile Defense System Communication Network Implementation Specification (MCNIS).

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • An active Secret clearance is required
  • 5 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; 3 years' experience with a master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; or 9 years' experience in lieu of a degree
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT - Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) is required
  • Experience with requirements specifications
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and MBSE tools
  • Understanding of systems engineering process and principles.
  • Experience with system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software and specialty engineers to develop solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior C2BMC experience
  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g. specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.). Candidates should have experience with developing large, complex systems.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment.
  •  Demonstrated experience working large multi-site software development efforts including external interface development.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies and/or Design Evaluations.
  • Excellent communications skills are required (written and oral) as is the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.

Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
