Sr Compliance Advisor

Are you a senior Compliance Specialist who is passionate about safety, improving reliability, electrical compliance and problem solving? We have a great opportunity for you reporting to the Manager, Electrical Regulatory Compliance.In this role you will provide compliance support to Suncor’s Oilsands Operations to ensure compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) for Suncor’s power generation and transmission assets.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management, information technology, or related field
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience in the electricity/utility industry specifically in ARS compliance roles
- Experience in cyber security, enterprise applications and business analysis
- Knowledge of Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES) operation
- Previous experience in dealing with AESO, MSA, AUC and/or NERC
- Previous experience with the AESO’s Alberta Risk Based Compliance Monitoring Program and MSA’s Compliance Process
- Experience identifying and assessing compliance related events and working collaboratively to conduct root cause analysis investigations and support implementation of corrective actions
- Project management expertise
- Ability to clearly define complex multivariable problems
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate AESO audits and Self-certifications including preparing, collecting and validating audit and self-certification evidence, and provision to AESO via AESO Portal.
- Prepare self-reports and mitigation plans to MSA that prevent the future recurrence of events
- Ensure that Suncor remains compliant with ARS requirements by maintaining accurate and organised evidence that meets internal and external specifications.
- Collaborate with multiple business units to maintain and follow ARS standards
- Establish effective working relationships with internal and external partners to track follow-up actions (I.e. mitigation plans and regulatory compliance controls) to completion
- Support and facilitate the creation of operating procedures, programs, compliance documentation and standards with business units
- Analyze and support projects for Critical Infrastructure Protection compliance and system reliability
- Monitor and track new ARS requirements and ensure Suncor effectively plans and budgets for these new requirements to ensure timely implementation
- Work and interact with regulatory organizations (e.g. AESO, MSA, WECC, NERC), provide input on new ARS consultation
- Track self-reports and mitigation plans submitted to MSA and support monthly stewardship reporting
Location and other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Calgary head office located in the Suncor Energy Centre (150 – 6th Ave SW).
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
- Occasional business travel (10-15%)
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
