This position will be located in Roy, Utah ; Huntsville, Alabama or Colorado Springs, Colorado and supporting the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division.
The selected candidate will lead a department within the Software Engineering organization, reporting directly to the SDS Software Engineering Director. The role involves setting operational objectives and providing mentorship to Functional Home Room (FHR) Section Managers (SMs) based on engineering goals, company policy, and cybersecurity standards. The candidate will oversee talent supporting multiple programs within the Division portfolio (ICBM Sustainment, Sentinel, and Advanced Programs), focusing on integrating cyber and software operations to ensure the successful achievement of program goals.
As the Cyber Software and Operations Department Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for managing risk, project performance, schedule, technical quality, and addressing technical or operational problems when necessary. The selected candidate will assist engineers and program staff to develop and maintain talent within the organization. Additionally, they will have frequent contact with equivalent-level managers and program leaders to enhance the health and performance for all programs.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading a team of engineers ranging across multiple engineering disciplines, including software engineers, cyber software engineers, cyber architects, cyber analysts, network engineers, and system admins.
- Provides ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support business areas and programs in achieving their mission.
- Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and collaboration with senior management, peers, and employees, specifically in the context of cyber and software operations.
- Ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the directorate business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.
- Accountability for recruiting, staffing and retaining talent to deliver on the objectives.
- Owning and leading improvements across employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.
- Mentor, develop, and train your section managers, and overall employee base.
- Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to organizational policies to enhance cyber resilience and software quality.
- Lead or manage Special Projects, both technical and non-technical.
- Act as an advisor to staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- 8 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree
- Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 6 years.
- US Citizenship and ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
- 3 years of formal management experience
- Demonstrated technical leadership and team leadership skills.
- Experience with individual contributor performance assessments
- Have a current DOD 8570 IAM Level III security certification (Examples: CISSP, GSLC, CISM)
- 3 years of experience developing in an agile environment
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Master's Degree with 9 years of experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) preferably an Engineering degree
- Proven leadership in engineering, particularly in integrating cybersecurity in acquisition, design, integration, and execution phases.
- Experience across engineering disciplines, with a strong emphasis on cyber and software operations.
- Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues and predict potential programmatic and technical risks
- Proven ability to operate independently with limited to no supervision, and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Candidate will require ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrated mentoring and guidance to engineers.
- Experience on ICBMs
- Experience creating or growing new sections or departments.
- An active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
- Able to assimilate information from multiple sources, create coherent plans and then execute those plans
- Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads and USAF leadership personnel
- Experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead or integrated program team
- Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving results through managing people and understanding and management of internal processes and customer/supplier relationships.
