Position Summary:  The Firewall Engineer will design, build, test, document, implement, and manage the security infrastructure of the company’s information technology (IT) systems. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Install software and hardware components of firewalls; configure firewall polices, rule sets, whitelisting, and content filtering; manage day-to-day operations, and perform regular maintenance through upgrades and patches.
  • Perform on-going optimization of the network security devices to ensure adequate capacity, availability, and scalability.
  • Review customer requirements for security systems and collaborate with other IT engineers and developers to determine and implement appropriate technical resolution.
  • Engage with customers and end-users, relaying pertinent information about the project and troubleshooting issues as discovered.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related area is preferred; or 5+ years of work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in implementing firewalls, routers, switches with the ability and experience working with vendors and service providers.
  • Proven experience with the OSI Model and how it is used for troubleshooting computer networks.
  • Proven experience with firewall technologies: NGFW, VPN, IPSEC, IPS, Web filtering, NAT/PAT, SDWAN
  • Layer 3 Protocols: BGP, OSPF
  • Layer 2 Protocols: ARP, 802.3ad, 802.1Q, 802.1D, 802.1W, 802.1S, 802.3AF, 802.3AT, VLAN, JunOS, ZTP, SPAN, RSPAN
  • Experience with FortiGate firewalls (FortiOS), FortiExtender, FortiAnalyser, FortiManager, and ForitiClient.
  • Fortinet Certifications NSE 4+
  • Azure WAF, Azure Firewall, NSG experience is recommended.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and working with others.
  • Must be willing to be part of a team that operates on an on-call basis.
