ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all – including students who fall behind or have been considered “hard to serve” for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.

OVERVIEW:

The SCSD has a Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school focused on three career academies and fourteen pathways. The Public Service Leadership Academy, was phased in at the Fowler High School campus starting with 9th grade students entering in the 2014-15 school year.  Students have the opportunity for mentorships, internships and job shadowing in a range of fields. Through the rigorous academic program at the Public Service Leadership Academy, students will develop the self-discipline that will help them thrive in college and careers and will make them community leaders in Syracuse and beyond. The school has a First Responder Academy, Homeland Security Academy, and an Entrepreneurial Academy. Each Academy has specific pathways for students and each Academy has a higher education partner and/or an industry/agency partner. Partners include: Bryant and Stratton College, I.B.E.W, National Grid, Onondaga Community College, Rural/Metro, Say Yes To Education, Mohawk Valley Community College, Upstate University Hospital, SRC, Inc., SUNY ESF, Syracuse Police Department and Syracuse Fire Department.

We are seeking Career and Technical Education Teachers for the Public Service Leadership Academy in the fields listed below. Positions are full-time. We specifically seek candidates who have a record of demonstrated excellence as practitioners in these fields. Field experts selected for these Career and Technical Education Teacher positions will need to complete certain requirements to earn New York State teaching certification.
