Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking and experienced Senior GRC (E8) Engineer to join our cybersecurity team on a new project. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) and a thorough understanding of the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) Essential 8 (E8) mitigation strategies. This role requires a self-reliant individual who can work independently. Previous experience in both federal government and security uplifts is highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align organisation's systems with the Essential Eight framework, covering application control, patching, user application hardening, privilege restriction, and backups.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and maintain risk registers to identify compliance gaps and mitigate threats.
  • Ensure security practices adhere to industry standards (ISO 27001, NIST) and develop compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare management reports using vulnerability scanning and SIEM tool outputs, and support security uplift projects to enhance resilience against cyber threats.
  • Promote a security culture through collaboration, education, and working with IT teams on implementing controls, as well as supporting incident response and recovery planning.

About You and What You'll Bring

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, and frameworks.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks through analytical skills.
  • Proficient in communicating complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and certifications (e.g., Security+, GIAC, Systems Security Certified Practitioner).
  • Experience in a GRC role, with a focus on cybersecurity and compliance.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and to hold a current baseline clearance.
