Your opportunity:

Our Digital & Information group have an exciting, fixed term opportunity for an experienced Cyber and Digital Risk Lead, with a proven track record of bringing their people together to achieve amazing results, in our Cyber Security and Digital Performance team.

Digital & Information is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today and digitally transforming future capability to enable provision of digital services to our customers, community and people. The group is accountable to formulate and execute Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, deliver Urban Utilities digital portfolio and provide day-to-day operations of information technology (IT), operating technology (OT), data, and the Internet of Things (IoT), including security, infrastructure management, system administration, network operations, and support services.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Cyber Security and Digital Performance, the Cyber and Digital Risk Lead is responsible for implementing and maintaining processes and procedures for digital risk management within Urban Utilities. This role ensures that digital risk is managed in alignment with the organization’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.


Leading a team of professionals this role is responsible for executing and maintaining robust security and risk management processes within Urban Utilities' information technology (IT), operating technology (OT), data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) environments. You will understand relevant legislation, frameworks and architecture and identify current and target state risk and performance. In doing so you will identify and allocate critical controls to assure the security and resilience of digital infrastructure and services and ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and standards. You will work closely with various stakeholders to mitigate risks and enhance the organization's overall security posture.

Success in this role will be measured by how well digital risk is assessed and mitigated within Urban
Utilities information technology (IT), operating technology (OT), data, and the Internet of Things (IOT) environments to meet Urban Utilities risk and performance appetite.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, risk or computer science, complimented by relevant industry knowledge and experience

  • Relevant qualifications in CISM, CRISC and/or CISSP would be advantageous.

  • Significant experience in security related work as it applies to systems, processes and challenges associated with cybersecurity matters

  • Familiarity with the water sector or similar industries, understanding the role of digital transformation would be advantageous.

  • Strong knowledge of digital technologies across ICT, OT, data, and IOT domains.

  • Strong knowledge of critical control methodologies and how they are applied in digital and data environments.

  • Experience running a similar multi-function unit in a large organisation, ideally with a customer centric model. This in particular applies to these domains:

    • Engaging with stakeholders to identify business requirements.

    • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and leading innovation in the technology space.

    • Leading, managing and directing a team of professionals in the design of end-to-end solutions in a complex environment.

    • Driving engagement and motivation and developing and mobilising the unique talents and capabilities of others

Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.

The requirement to undertake ‘on call duties’ arises from the critical nature of the role including key responsibilities for ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services on a 24 hour 7 days per week basis to customers and the community across Urban Utilities’ geographic area in performing functions as a distributor-retailer under the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring Act 2009 (Qld). The remuneration for the role has been calculated to include compensation for the requirement to remain available to perform work during on call periods and for the
performance of work outside the ordinary hours of work as part of on call processes and otherwise. In some instances, additional compensation and remuneration may apply.
