Job Title: Executive Manager Cyber Defence Operations
Location: Manyata Tech Park, Bangalore

Business & Team:

At the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), we are dedicated to safeguarding our digital assets and protecting our customers' data. Our Cyber Detection & Response team is at the forefront of this mission, identifying, responding to, and mitigating cyber threats. We are now seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Manager Cyber Defence Operations to lead our Cyber Detection & Response Team in India.


Impact & Contribution:

The Executive Manager Cyber Defence Operations India will be responsible for overseeing the Cyber Defence Operations team, based in our Bangalore office. The team includes cyber analysts, cyber incident responders, third-party responders, and threat intelligence analysts. This role requires strong leadership and collaboration skills, deep cybersecurity expertise, and the ability to manage and coordinate complex security operations.

Reporting Lines: Direct line reporting to General Manager - CTO 


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Experience: Experience of working in the financial services industry is desirable.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a large team of cyber professionals to provide a 24 x 7 security operations capability for the CBA group, in collaboration with peers based in Australia. Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.

  • Incident Management: Oversee the analysis, and response to cybersecurity incidents. Ensure timely and effective incident resolution and post-incident analysis.

  • Threat Intelligence: In co-ordination with the Australian-based threat intelligence team, manage the collection, analysis, and dissemination of threat intelligence to inform proactive defence measures. Collaborate with Australian-based CBA threat intelligence teams to stay ahead of emerging threats.

  • Third-Party Response: Coordinate with third-party vendors and partners to ensure effective response to cybersecurity incidents involving CBA’s external entities. Establish and maintain strong relationships with the Australian-based third-party management team and other key stakeholders.

  • Operational Excellence: Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cyber defence operations. Ensure team adherence to CBA policies and procedures.

  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and highlight opportunities to improve cyber defence processes and controls to enhance the organisation's security posture. Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity trends and advancements.

  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on the status of cyber defence operations, incidents, and threat intelligence to senior management. Provide actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other cybersecurity teams, including Australian-based peers, to ensure the team engages in high levels of knowledge transfer and are aligned with the latest policies and procedures.

Essential skills:

We are interested in hearing from people who have extensive experience in:

  • Experience: 18+ years of industry experience with minimum of 10 years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing cyber defence operations.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in cybersecurity technologies, incident response, threat intelligence, and third-party risk management. Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, and other security tools.

  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Risk mindset: All CBA employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss, and act on current and future risks.


Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or similar are highly desirable.
