Security Engineer Trainee

We at Telia’s Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) are offering a unique temporary summer opportunity for a Security Engineer intern to take part in real-world cybersecurity operations. 

As a Security Engineer Trainee… 

At GSOC, we are on the frontlines of Telia Company’s cyber defense, working to prevent, detect, and respond to incidents and strengthen Telia’s resilience against cybersecurity threats. As part of our multinational and technically skilled team, your mission will be to develop security detection capabilities using security audit logs and our Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platform. You will collaborate closely with security engineers and analysts to design and implement detection rules that help us spot anomalies and suspicious activity. 

You will participate in identifying data sources, learning how logs translate into insight, and writing detection logic using real-world cyber scenarios. Throughout your time with us, you’ll be supported by experienced colleagues and will also have the flexibility to explore additional areas of cybersecurity based on your interests, whether that’s system hardening, threat intelligence, DevOps security, or networking. This is a hands-on role that blends programming, data analysis, and security, and you’ll gain valuable experience working in a professional, mission-driven environment. 

Who We’re Looking For… 

We are looking for someone with a natural curiosity for technology and cybersecurity, who enjoys solving logical problems and working with data. You should have some experience in programming, preferably with Python or JavaScript, and a working knowledge of query languages such as SQL, KQL, SPL, or similar. It will also help if you have a basic understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, system administration (Linux/Windows), DevOps environments, or networking protocols like TCP/IP. 

While we do not expect you to be an expert, we do value a willingness to learn, take initiative, and collaborate with others. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is essential for working in our international team. You will be trained to use the SIEM platform and supported throughout your learning process, but we expect you to take ownership of your tasks and grow into the role during the internship. Please note that due to the nature of the role, the selected candidate must pass a security background check.
