Information Security Analyst Description
South College is seeking an Information Security Analyst to enhance our cybersecurity posture, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of institutional systems and data. This role will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security threats while supporting compliance initiatives and security best practices.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a proactive approach to security risk management, and experience with cybersecurity frameworks and tools.
Responsibilities
- Monitor IT systems for suspicious activity, investigate security incidents, and respond promptly to mitigate risks.
- Analyze security threats, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, NIST, GDPR) and develop and enforce institutional security policies.
- Conduct regular security assessments and system audits to identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in developing and delivering security awareness programs for faculty, staff, and students.
- Support security measures related to AI implementations and cloud-based systems.
- Manage and configure security tools such as firewalls, SIEM solutions, endpoint protection, and identity management systems.
- Work closely with different IT teams to improve security processes and provide reports on security risks and incidents.
- Stay updated on emerging cyber threats, attack techniques, and industry best practices.
- Spearhead cyber security initiatives and projects.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in IT security, cybersecurity operations, or a related role.
- Hands-on experience with security monitoring tools, firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS/IPS), and SIEM solutions.
Skills
- Knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and compliance regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR).
- Understanding network security principles, cloud security, and identity & access management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education IT environments.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, or GIAC.
- Familiarity with AI security measures and best practices.
