Job Description

Location: Bristol, Gloucester or Bridgwater (hybrid working)

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role at the heart of a high-profile, high-risk project? Do you have the expertise, independence, and integrity to provide crucial oversight on both physical and cyber security? If so, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

We're searching for a talented and experienced Independent Security Assessor to join our team and provide objective, insightful, and high-impact assessment across one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, Hinkley Point C (HPC).

In this role, you’ll work independently from the project delivery teams, bringing a critical eye and a focus on continuous improvement to management systems and practices – all while keeping security front and centre.

This isn’t just another assessment role. You’ll be ensuring that security – both physical and cyber – is baked into every corner of the project. You’ll need to be a skilled communicator, able to influence and advise senior leaders while demonstrating the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. With your experience in complex, technical, and heavily regulated environments, you'll confidently interpret and apply national-level security regulations and help shape practices that safeguard not just systems, but people and infrastructure.

You’ll find yourself at the forefront of the action – with a focus initially on physical, procedural, and personnel security, but with real opportunity to expand into the world of cyber security assurance. Your reach will extend across the entire HPC project – supporting current and future phases, and engaging directly with a wide variety of stakeholders. You'll regularly visit our HPC construction site in Somerset, as well as other office locations across the UK and France, helping to embed assurance and best practice into every part of the operation.

Your insights and recommendations will be heard at the highest levels, including external regulators and internal governance committees. You'll play a vital role in shaping our security culture, collaborating across EDF Group and with national security bodies such as BEIS, CPNI, and NCSC, and helping to ensure our supply chain is secure from manufacturing to installation.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive salary of £65,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

Who you are

To thrive in this role, you’ll be a confident self-starter with a sharp analytical mind and an eye for detail. You’ll have a proven track record of leading audits or assessments ideally in nuclear, high-risk, or similarly complex environments, and a working knowledge of key security standards and frameworks like NIST, ISO 27000, and the Cyber Assessment Framework.

Professional certifications like CISSP, CISM, or CPP would be a bonus – but your real strength will be your ability to think critically, act independently, and influence with integrity.

If you’re looking for a meaningful opportunity to make your mark on a major project that will define the future of UK energy, this could be your next big step. Join us, and help ensure we deliver a secure and resilient legacy.
