Atlassian helps teams everywhere change the world through the power of software, and we are looking for a well-rounded Senior Engineering Manager for Atlassian's Trust Engineering team in the India region to build and lead a dedicated engineering team for Privacy.

Our Trust Engineering teams are located in the USA, Australia, and India, and we are excited to announce the creation of a new role within our APAC region. This team will focus on developing and managing advanced platforms and software systems aimed at enhancing the company’s overall privacy posture, ensuring that privacy is integral to the design and functionality of our products.
This initiative is crucial for several reasons:

• Customers are increasingly concerned about how their data is managed.

• Governments enforce stringent privacy regulations, such as GDPR.

As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Trust Engineering org, you’ll be a technical leader and people manager, responsible for guiding your team(s) to technical decisions for production services, helping prioritize and organize the team's work, managing projects and programs within and across departments, and providing career growth and mentorship opportunities to your team.

What you'll do

• Be a people manager for your engineers (~10-15 people).

• Own the delivery of critical projects, multiple streams of work at once, mainly focusing on:

  • Build Privacy Tools: Create systems to make privacy checks part of the product design process and SDL.

  • Work with Experts: Collaborate with legal, data governance, and compliance teams.

  • Achieve Certifications: Help Atlassian get recognized privacy certifications like ISO 27701.

• Closely collaborate with key stakeholders in the USA, Australia, and India to understand the key certification, legal, and privacy requirements while maintaining a deep understanding of our products and platform capabilities.

• Lead your team through incidents and high operational load, navigate ambiguity, and make trade-offs and hard decisions.

• Develop adequate processes and practices and work with leaders across the company to mature Atlassian’s privacy posture through high-quality data and scaling solutions.

Responsibilities

• Team management: Hire, build, and retain an open, trusting, operationally mature culture and team. Lead and mentor a team of high-performing technical professionals, fostering a culture of security and collaboration crossing cultural and geographical boundaries.

• Collaboration and communication: Foster a privacy-focused culture within the product development process, communicating updates, risks, and strategies to executive leadership and stakeholders.

• Leadership development: Mentor and develop others, contributing to large-scale security, privacy, and trust projects and ensuring successful implementation.

• Operational excellence: Define appropriate operational and quality metrics and ensure they are achieved and maintained. You build it, you run it.

• Domain oversight: Implement and enforce privacy engineering standards, policies, and procedures for product development, collaborating on risk assessments and mitigation strategies.

Basic qualifications

• A track record of delivering projects on time, in scope, and within quality goals in an Agile/Lean environment.

• Experience driving changes and establishing processes through company-wide initiatives.

• 5+ years of software, infrastructure, privacy, or security engineering experience, preferably at a similar scale enterprise.

• 8+ years managing and growing engineers and/or managers.

• Experience providing actionable feedback and coaching engineers.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience building SaaS software with a focus on operational excellence.

• Experience collaborating with legal stakeholders on a global scale.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with scalable, high-performance systems that are highly available.

• A strong understanding of how to use metrics to guide decisions.

• Experience reducing toil and working with teams with high operational load.

• Familiarity with security systems and privacy certifications, practices, and processes.

• Bonus if you have led security or trust & safety teams before.

It's great, but not required, if you have

• Managing vendors and industry partners experience.

• Enterprise-grade platform solution development.

• Cloud engineering/security experience.

• Presentation experience at industry events.

• Experience working with compliance, privacy, trust & safety, security, and infrastructure.

• Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscape, and best practices.
