IT Security Intern
Location: Remote in the United States
Target Dates:  June - August 2025
29 hours per week
Compensation: $20/hr


Job Description:

An IT Security Internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in protecting an organization's digital assets. Interns typically work under the guidance of senior security professionals to learn about and contribute to various aspects of cybersecurity. 

Responsibilities:
  • Support Security Operations:
    • Assist in monitoring security alerts and incidents using security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
    • Help investigate and analyze security breaches and incidents.
  • Vulnerability Assessment:
    • Participate in vulnerability scans and assessments of networks, systems, and applications.
    • Assist in identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities.
  • Security Policy and Compliance:
    • Support the development and enforcement of security policies and procedures.
    • Help ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS.
  • Threat Intelligence:
    • Assist in gathering and analyzing threat intelligence to understand emerging threats and attack vectors.
    • Help develop strategies to mitigate identified threats.
  • Security Awareness Training:
    • Contribute to the creation and delivery of security awareness programs for employees.
    • Assist in educating staff about phishing, social engineering, and other common security threats.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed records of security incidents and responses.
    • Help document security configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Research and Development:
    • Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies.
    • Assist in researching new security tools and technologies that can enhance the organization's security posture.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic understanding of networking and operating systems.
    • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts such as firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information.
Preferred Competencies:
  • Strong interest in cybersecurity and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Experience:
  • Previous internship or coursework in cybersecurity or related areas is beneficial but not required.
