The Cyber Security organization at Ciena is a group of skilled professionals who share the same passion for defending against cyber criminals. With the increase in volume and sophistication of cyber-crime, we are growing and have tons of exciting work planned. We are dedicated to driving the security mission of Ciena throughout the enterprise; Do the Right Things (and Do Them Well), Protect the Company (From Evolving Threats), and to Build Trust (in Our Products and Program). The Security Industry Outreach Lead will have specific focus in building trust with the Security and Telecom community at large by identifying key networking opportunities for our Security team members and CISO.

The Security Industry Outreach Lead will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage with existing and potential customers, clients, and industry by identifying their security related needs, Ciena’s security program, building relationships, and facilitating communication through various channels like events, marketing materials, and direct outreach efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage various inputs to develop security communication and outreach strategies, including:
  • Ciena customers
  • Ciena partners and vendors
  • Ciena strategic opportunities
  • Global governmental influences
  • CISOs, CIOs, and other technical positions
  • Others as needed
  • Develop strategic relationships with the Ciena Security team and business stakeholders, establishing and maintaining a sustainable and consistent communication
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with industry peers through trade associations and other coalitions to inform and amplify Ciena positions on cybersecurity issues, in coordination with Ciena Legal.
  • Work collectively within the cyber security team, as well as with other business stakeholders, to leverage updates to key project initiatives to build/ update externally facing information and collateral with the Security Customer Trust team.
  • Work in tandem with Ciena Marketing and Product Marketing teams to identify and build opportunities for Ciena Security external communications, speaking engagements, public writings, etc.
  • Work collectively with Ciena Legal to ensure all communication opportunities are leveraging approved language and content.
  • Continually conduct research on industry trends, events, notable resources and influencers, and other information that our security team and leaders should be apprised on or involved with.
  • Build strong inter-group/cross functional relationships, at various levels in the organization, while identifying opportunities for process improvement related to our Security Program at large
  • Keeping abreast of internal and external security risks and threats, and communicating those appropriately; both internally as well as by assisting with external communication drafting (with appropriate stakeholders)
  • Managing internal and external relationships effectively 
  • Advocating for, and participating in, efforts to enhance the program both for operational efficiency as well as to improve the risk posture of the organization 
  • Being a champion for security and modeling behaviors consistent with cybersecurity best practices  
  • Representing the best interests of Ciena 


 

SKILLS

  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Self-starter with ability to conduct significant research to identify security opportunities
  • Familiarity with cyber security industry standards and principles, such as CIA Triad, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, and others.
  • Ability to relay technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to read and interpret legal language/ contract language and relay security requirements within legally reasonable and sound language
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and self-driven
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment, often under time constraints
  • Business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Comfortable in presence of and/or presenting to executives
  • High level of professional maturity and well-developed business skills


EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent
  • Cyber Security related certifications preferred, such as CompTIA Security+, CRISC, CISM, CISSP, or others.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Cyber Security Customer Trust or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Agile principles as well as Agile tooling such as Jira, Azure Dev Ops, etc.
  • Experience with communication with customers, partners, and industry peers.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
