The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking a motivated and collaborative early-career professional for the role of IT Systems Administrator / IT Security Technician. This is a great opportunity for someone with foundational IT experience or formal training who's looking to grow their skills while supporting impactful animal conservation efforts.
As part of our three-person Systems Administration team, you'll support daily operations while playing a key role in strengthening our information security and compliance practices. You'll gain hands-on experience with a variety of technologies, from managing a virtualized Windows environment to contributing to IT security initiatives. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, detail-oriented, and ready to take ownership of both routine and project-based work in a supportive, mission-centered organization.
What You'll Do:
- Support and secure IT infrastructure by coordinating system updates, penetration testing, and compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to identify and resolve security issues.
- Provide Tier 3 support to our IT Support team, helping keep our users connected and productive.
- Assist in systems administration across on-premise and cloud-based environments.
What We're Looking For:
- 1-3 years of professional IT experience or a strong combination of technical training, certifications, and hands-on work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, virtualization, and cloud-based services.
- An interest in IT security and compliance; relevant experience or certifications are a plus.
- A proactive team player with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
This is considered an early-career role and is ideal for individuals looking to grow into more advanced IT system administration and security responsibilities over time.
Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Nice to Have):
- Familiarity with Linux/MacOS, SharePoint, SQL Server, Raiser's Edge, VoIP systems, or PCI-DSS standards.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; relevant certifications or a degree in IT or a related field preferred.
