About the Role: 

 

Are you ready to lead a dynamic team and drive forward cutting-edge risk modelling approaches? We are seeking a confident individual with exceptional technical expertise and outstanding interpersonal skills to join our team as the Head of Risk Modelling. Swiss Re's Internal Capital Adequacy Model plays a central role in Swiss Re's business steering, capital management, as well as regulatory reporting and public disclosure. As the Head of Risk Modelling, you will lead a global team of 20+ Risk Modelers responsible for designing, developing, and implementing Swiss Re's Internal Capital Adequacy model. You will collaborate with numerous internal and external stakeholders in Risk Management, Actuarial, Finance, Investments, and Underwriting, as well as regulators. You possess a robust combination of technical proficiency, leadership ability, business acumen, and effective communication skills. 

 

Main Tasks: 

  • Define the overall risk modelling strategy aligned with the organization’s business goals and risk management framework. 
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of risk analysts and modelers. Foster an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. 
  • Responsible for development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the internal capital adequacy model. This includes risk model design, model calibration, backtesting, and leading efforts to automate risk modelling processes for efficiency and scalability. 
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by making sure that risk models and regulatory solvency calculations comply with regulatory standards and frameworks (e.g., Solvency II, SST). 
  • Lead efforts to continuously improve risk models based on lessons learned from real-world events, emerging risks, and advancements in modeling techniques. 
  • Ensure that the risk modeling team and wider organization have the necessary training and knowledge to operate risk models effectively and understand their implications. 

 

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​As the Head of Risk Modelling, you have a self-assured personality with profound technical and excellent interpersonal skills. Team lead will need to manage critical relationships with the regulator and advise on the internal model with senior stakeholders. 

 

About the Team: 

 

We are a global team of ~25 Risk Modelers within Group Risk Management tasked with developing and maintaining Swiss Re's internal capital model, which is used for regulatory reporting and capital allocation. We work with numerous internal and external stakeholders in Risk Management, Actuarial, Finance, Investments, and Underwriting, as well as regulators.  

 

About You: 

 

  • PhD or Master's degree in quantitative science or qualified Actuary 
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the financial industry, ideally with a proven track record on regulatory interaction for internal models most notably SST or Solvency II. 
  • A deep understanding of quantitative techniques, such as statistical/actuarial modeling, econometrics, and time-series analysis, to analyze risks. 
  • Profound knowledge of capital management, economic valuation frameworks, and different accounting regimes, a plus. 
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of risk modelers, data scientists, and analysts. This includes setting clear goals, mentoring junior team members, and providing guidance on complex issues. 
  • Ability to design and implement governance processes for managing and reviewing risk models, ensuring they are aligned with organizational policies and regulations. 
  • Ability to translate complex technical findings into simple, actionable insights for senior management and non-technical stakeholders, such as board members or regulators. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee the development, validation, and implementation of risk models. 
  • Excellent command of the English, business level of German considered a strong plus. 
  • Strong delivery focus and demonstrable experience producing strong technical documentation
